Boss GT-1B discussion thread

I haven't posted and been here for a very long time. But whenever I need help on new stuffs I know I can rely on the members here. After reading 18 pages I pulled the trigger and got one the other day. Coming from big board and some expensive pedals, (sold them because of covid) I can say that this little thing is good, it has limits but it does the job. Just keep in mind what you program in the room alone sounds totally different when you are with the band live on stage.

Cheers!

I've yet to try the GT-1B on stage. I haven't noticed huge differences in different band rehearsal studios (apart from each space generally having its own sound characteristics).

Could you please give a couple of examples of how the patches sound different on stage? Any particular effects more drastically different?

Thanks

Not to speak for Phatbass, but I think he was saying that a good patch at home may not be a good patch in a mix. Not that things change from venue to venue.

Yeah, I understand that..... Therefore asking for a couple of examples home to stage, as I've not done that yet. (done rehearsal space)
See if there's any consideration to effects parameters, to improve etc

Usually people will set up a scooped tone at home which will then get lost in the mix, but it's really hard to predict what will or won't get lost. It depends on a lot of factors. I usually set it up where I know the stuff I've changed and just make myself ready to alter on the fly at practice. And sometimes the experiments just don't work and I have to scrap the idea and go back to the drawing board.

Yeah fair enough. Certainly learnt to consider/adjust tone & eq in a band mix!
I'm dabbling with some synthy effects to use in simple breaks (we don't have a keys player). Not v elaborate and I'm not expecting too much, just an extra layer of sound as a vibe. So can be 'swelled' in with exp pedal.
I also use Ableton patches, launched with a foot pedal.

So far, pretty successful in rehearsals. Keen to put to good gig use!

Anything with compression and preamps, it definitely needs tweaking when I get on stage with my band. All depends on the venue, amp and when playing all together with my band.

In my experience it's been the output level or the EQ and specially the compression. When my band starts to play loud the compression drowns me in the mix.

After playing for 2 nights and tweaking on stage, I finally got the tone and the effects I wanted. For now. I got a patch which is my main one, no preamps just limiter. Ctr1 filter, ctr2 overdrive and ctr3 od solo.

I also tweaked the fuzz, chorus and fretless to my liking. So far all good. Mixed and sits well with my band.

Took a fair amount of time & head scratching to successfully assign the exp pedal to the delay parameter(s) .....

It just wouldn't work..... Kept double checking, rebooting, testing assigning another effects.... Etc

And then, ureka, there I saw it !!! The Tera Echo has its OWN selection of parameters, within the list of other delay controls!!! Duh

Anyone else sweat with this? Ha ha

Are they really worth the $$$?
Depends on where you are playing. I definitely notice a difference, smooths everything out. I play at church though. If the sound volunteer is good, then it’s worth it. If the volunteer is just going to bury you anyway, then the subtleties it adds will be lost anyway. I think it was worth it, I tap my own signal for my IEMs before I send it to FOH.

The demos are quite convincing and I'm a sucker for improving tone.

But I play an active MusicMan, with on board EQ, have a Darkglass harmonic booster which I like, EQ & tone options in a Fender Rumble, plus more recently, all the options on the GT-1B..... I can't justify the cost or reason atm.

I’m playing an active Fender American Ultra with 18v preamp, going through either the GT-1B or an analog board with an Aguilar Tonehammer and into a Rumble 500 when I’m not on a silent stage with IEMs. It makes more difference with the IEM tone than with the amp but still a difference. You know TB is a bunch of enablers here. :D
