Boss GT-1B discussion thread

all true, but generally I use a comp in a very conservative way and I'm fine with it being first (or last). The main issue with an external comp in my view is that its going to end up being on one setting all the time always, on or off ...and that's it. With the built in Comp you can create different comp settings for different patches...

anyway, as I said, I also don't usually need any of the other creative FX as much as I did with guitar. its just not needed by me most of the time... I don't even like the sound of chorused out bass, etc.....and if I need that for something I'll just forgoe the Comp on that one..or if I have to..the toneModify, but probably more likely to give up the comp in a case like that.

I started on the gt1b, then went to the gt1k core and now I've landed on this. All 3 units are amazing and can do way more than most will be able to utilize.

googling around, lost the reference already sorry. There are certain AMPs which are considered new AIRD models and some that are so called "legacy" amps...which are from older GT units and not have the completely AIRD technology. Which makes sense. AIRD is basically some kind of dynamic IR technology...and all those old amps would have to be re-profiled..they simply made a bunch of new AIRD ones...and then included the legacy non-AIRD models also for those interested.

I did not see any bass amps listed as AIRD types.

reading right now the manual for the GX100, its a much nicer user manual compared to older GT's. It does list the Bass AIRD models separately from the GUITARS and does have basically 3 AIRD bass models, one is SVT, the other two are generic flat response type amp models that incorporate the AIRD tech.

and thanks, that appears same as GT1000. you get three bass preamps in AIRD...only one of which is modeled after a real world amp. But at least AIRD is there. I will definitely have to try that one of these days.

Cost isn't an important factor IMO. Perfect example... the GT1B which Bubby Lewis gigs with as well as a GT1K and probably the GX100 soon.

Don't use the amp models or cab Sims. If I need them I have plenty of IRs and I have almost the entire IK Multimedia library on my computer for amps.

My purpose is for a multi fx pedal. And with the BT, touch screen, and expression pedal the GX checks all my blocks.

In my view Boss makes not a real modeler. For example, all drive's in the GTK have the same parameters. A Boss MetalZone stompbox has a LO, HI and a mid-shift EQ, but the 'model' has just a 'tone' parameter. You would need to add a seperate EQ and make your own 'model'.

In Boss's intent they don't want to recreate the past. They make thier version of it.

which kind of explains why they moved away from a lot of bass pre amp models (aside from the SVT), they just have a generic, yet highly flexible, preamp model and hypothetically, you program it to sound how you want it to sound. I have to try it to say any more than that. I'm sure the modeled pedals have some aspect of the stuff they are modeling...the sonic signature...but yet its not really a true model if you can't tweak it to the same extent as the original. But...anyway, in the end, I don't care that much about absolutely model accuracy, I care about being about to get all the sounds I want...with the best feel possible...whatever it takes to get there.

AIRD definitely has me intrigued.

The effects sound like what they are bassed off more so than the amps. And because of the tone shaping and some KEY parameters and functions the entire pedal is made for bassists.

1. parallel chain
2. Everything has clean blend (direct level)
3. You get more tone sculpting and eqing than you would get from most of the pedals

I've had mine about a year. Used presets just didn't make or have time. Now I'm using the looper and spending some time. Learned how to build a patch, store it, using and older Kustom latch pedal with 2 switches for CTL2 and CTL3. How to get CTL 4 through 7 I'm not there yet but looking forward to it.

I'm playing more guitar ATM and at least to my ears it's not as if the guitar is suffering going through the Bass version. Not tailored as well, Just like my Bass amps it sounds fine.

Anyone else try this, or get a chance to compare both Bass and guitar versions with a guitar ?

Most likely be relying heavily on the more basic functions and effects in a live setting now, It's what I have and i'm trying not to go too far down the hole :)

Gt1b got a few guitar amps (clean, crunch and high gain). They sound ok. Gt1 its better but its a nice addition to have those amps on gt1b. You could play guitar with a gt1b totally fine.

I emailed Boss yesterday and they were unbelievably quick, I had a response by this morning.

I mainly asked if all those tasty guitar patches could be loaded into the GT-1B. Their answer... no. The engineering differences between the two would make it impossible, and the pre amps aren't all the same, then went on and on about the gt1000 and other higher end models that could.

I sent the reply to my buddy, I generally trust his wisdom. He said I could risk bricking my GT-1B if I could even get as far as loading those guitar patches on.

I tend to disagree. I think either it'll work or it won't, and worst case scenario will be me having to do a factory reset on it. I'm the type to try it and see for myself when it comes to calculated risks.

The real danger being I'm home from work sick today with nothing better to do than fiddle. I could make a run to GC and be back home with a new GT-1 in an hour or less, take no risks and load guitar patches all day, or I could just stay here get on bosstone central, and see what happens when I try loading them on my GT-1B...

I'm kind of looking for real practical experience here, do you or anyone else think there's a significant chance I'll do irreparable damage to the bass version by loading guitar patches on it ?

Right now I think not, but I'm deff often to opinions....

On another option, I could go get the GT-1 mess with it and still have plenty of time to return it if I need to....
