BOSS GX-100

Hi all. I've been using this multi fx since friday 13th.

I am liking the display, versatility and ease of use but I am not liking the drive, distortion and fuzz effects for now. The last two in particular seem to me to be the same stuff.
Moreover my passive bass (a Sire PJ) seems to overload the unit even after configuring the input gain, and I have some static noise...
Would someone be so kind to share his or her settings, suggestions or tricks to obtain some good drive, distortion and fuzz sounds?

Sounds strange. Boss drive sounds are very good. As far as overloading the input gain, not sure how you're doing that. If you're going to persist with the GX-100, you're gonna have to learn it yourself, and put in the time to use it properly. The GX-100 is a quality MFX unit.

Thank you, I'll try to learn it properly then.

I am disapponted because in the short amount of time I had the Boss GT-1000core I was liking the drives, distortions and fuzz and not the modulations. Moreover I wasn't having any overload in the input.

On the other hand on the GX-100 I am liking the modulations and not the drives, etc.

Here's a link to Boss Tone Central that has 3 Bass LiveSets for GX-100. Could give you some ideas on how to set the drive parameters.

Actually planning on taking a trip down to the L&M here to try one out, when me and my bass are both back in town next week.

If it's sorted out the two things on the GT-10B that I need upgraded - pitch shift + octave effects - then it's a win for me. I'll probably look note at the GX-10 - the size restrictions on flights these days are serious bizness 😜

there was a YouTube demo someone did of all the bass effects in the gx10 (aka 100)
The polyphonic pitch shifter / pedal bend stuff sounded pretty darn good…

If you guys are interested in hearing the bass tones from Boss GT1000 core you can check this out:



Its my band's debut album. ALL the bass sounds you hear in this entire video are purely from Boss GT-1000 core. However I would like to add, the same effects chain can be duplicated in the Boss GX-100 due to the new GX-100 firmware offering bass models. My guitar player has a GX-100 and I recreated the same patches there too, as backup in case my GT-1000 core runs into some issues

Do you mean with 'purely from Boss GT-1000 core' everything is DI-ed and no amp or cabs were involved? Could you maybe elaborate a bit on what you used on the Boss, here, or preferably in the Boss GT-1000 core thread!?

Thanks for the kind words.

So basically, here is how the bass for the whole album was recorded:

Epiphone Toby Deluxe IV bass (Delano JVMC 4 Fe/M2 (long neck) pickups, VVT passive controls, stock preamp removed)---->Boss GT-1000 core---->MacBook Logic pro X session via USB (using the Boss GT-1000 core as a USB interface)

The ENTIRE bass tone is made SOLELY inside the Boss GT-1000 core. Its actually a very simple patch.

1. Bass guitar into the input->input gain set on the Boss GT-1000 core.
2. Signal chain inside the patch of Boss GT-1000 core: Boss X compressor for bass->Bass Driver->Natural bass amp->EQ block (paramteric)->cab

After the processed signal from GT-1000 core was recorded, then in the DAW session additional processing like EQ, compression etc. was done.

Ofcourse I would add that there are multiple bass patches throughout the album, but the core of all the patches stays the same (what I described above)
Some of them may have the bass driver disengaged for a cleaner bass sound, some may have chorus/flanger/delay/reverb/fuzz/bass wah but the backbone of all patches stays the same

It came in a few days ago, and I’ve been checking it all out. It came brand new with the 2.03 update. Sound is much improved over the Gt-10B. Drives are much better.

I’ve been learning how to adjust the tones in my patches on the GX-100. I learned yesterday, that the noise suppressors act similar to a compressor. So, I dialed back the noise suppressors quite a bit on a few patches. Now where getting somewhere and sounding much much better. Now to see if the same things works for my old GT-10b.
