Boss Katana as Bass Amp - Tone

As I'm normally an electric guitar player (Godin Session), I use a
Boss Katana-50 Combo Amp

I decided I wanted to play around with a bass guitar this month so I rented a Fender Jazz Squier and have been using it on the Boss Katana.

I'm a novice on even the electric so this is just for home practice on lower volume settings.

I have the Katana on the 25w and lead setting with no effects.

I find the tone kind of "meh" and I'm wondering how much of a difference it would make if I plugged it into a Fender Rumble 25 or 40 instead?
Again - lower volumes here so not playing anything house shattering. Just looking for a nice comfy tone.

Ok - I guess my question is - a small bass amp will substantially improve the tone then? Again, just for my own ear as just practicing at home.

Edit: note it's a Katana 50 not 100 as originally quoted.

I practice with headphones at home myself. Its a personal preference thing more than anything. I don't have any idea what your Katana guitar amp sounds like with bass, so you will have to be the one to tell us whether it sounds better through a real bass amp. I would think yes. I don't know how flat the response is on the MK2 or on the katana bass amp either for that matter. The mk2 has 12" speaker, is it voiced for guitar or true FRFR speaker? I am not sure anyone really knows the answer to that for sure, BOSS always leaves a lot of ambiguous questions like that hanging in the air for users to speculate about wildly. If they are both FRFR amp/speakers, then it comes down to the modeling used...and obviously..the MK2's guitar preamp models will be constraining the tone to guitar voicings, not bass. So on that point alone I would expect the boss Katana bass to sound better.

However, its also possible that its plenty FRFR enough that you could get something like that Boss GT1B for a lot less $$$ and then plug that into the amp input on the MK2...and it might just sound plenty good enough to avoid buying a seperate bass amp. You'll have to try it and let us know. I practice with headphones at GT1B
