Yea I'm sure its Digitally modeled, but looking online I see very limited information, they are not calling it as being modeled after any particular amps...they are generic names, Vintage, Flat, Modern. Whatever that means. But I will take @Johno Dunn word for it, that it may sound better then the couple of models built into the Core. This device is designed more from the ground up for Bass, compared the the Core which was really designed for guitar and had a couple bass modules tacked on to it.
Looking at the FX section I see that it has a few things that are not in the Core (but are in the GT1B), for example the bass pickup simulators.
I am curious what reason there is to keep using the Core in 4 cable method with it. What does it not do well enough on its own that requires inserting the Core into it?
I already bought bought both a GT1B and Core...and decided more or less to sell the Core eventually. But now I'm wondering if a Katana on its own would suffice...don't even need the GT1B anymore. Most of the time I'm just running a good ol' SVT model in either device anyway..which is probably similar to the "Vintage" amp in the Katana I am guessing.

I’m keeping the CORE, because the compressors are better and on the fly more adjustable, Touch Wah and Octaver work very well for me, and the flexibility of the signal chain is better. Plus half my gigs are IE, and the CORE really shines there.
A full weekend of gigs with the Katana/CORE combo using 4cm, and I’m sold. I could get by with the Katana and a Boss footswitch, but I don’t think it would be as versatile or sound as good!
Saturday night Bar gig with no FOH and tone was awesome, and I heard myself really well. Band sounded great.
Tonight was a theater gig with FOH and a sound man. Got props from the sound man on my tone, and the band was super tight. I’m sticking with this set up.

Honestly I am inches away from placing an order. I don't know yet whether I will keep my Core or keep my GT1B or use just the Katana, but I do think the Katana is kind of a perfect AMP to use together with any other modeler for a clean amp'd though fairly FR speakers. But with AB amp and 2x10's, its got umph too. its like the perfect Amp to use with any modeler at all that way.
But you definitely have me intrigued about the Katana Preamp models that come built into the Katana..Aside from the fact it only has 6 presets...they might be totally fine for me. Let's be honest, how often does a bass player really need a million presets?

Quick reply as I'm at work, Bass > CORE In > Send from FX Loop1 CORE > Katana In > Send FX Loop Katana > Return FX Loop1 CORE > Out from CORE > Return FX Katana. I set the Loop1 to Normal, and adjust Send/Return accordingly. This gives me the ability to move the Katana's Pre anywhere in the chain I want it. I'll try and get a screen shot of my whole chain this afternoon.
yea that makes sense. Plus you get all the presets of Core as the main preset brain of the system. Katana then just becomes a Giant FX module of its own in every patch signal path. Lovely. Is there any way to coordinate the two so that changing presets on the Core will change any of Katana's settings automatically?

Best I would be able to do is just run bass->GT1b->Katana...and then each preset on the GT1b and katana would turn on or off the preamp depending on which I'm using. Hi all, I'm thinking of geting a katana and am not sure to go for the 1x10 or the 2x10. I know the 2x10 is louder but does it sound better than the 1x10 at low and medium volumes? At present I just jam with a guitarist so the 1x10 would be loud enough but I may jam with a drummer down the track, not sure. Any advice would be much appricated. Cheers.
Don’t get me wrong, the 1b will sound really good into Power Amp in on the Katana. Think of the Katana as a powered monitor (FRFR) designed from the ground up for bass.
I am only using one preset for the Katana set up and it does everything I need tonality wise and FX wise, but I think you would need an external footswitch to change patches on the Katana.
I have the 110 and it’s surprising loud. And surprisingly heavy. I have not personally used it with a drummer and guitarist, but I have no doubt it could handle practice settings under most instances

The 110 has been compared in volume to a rumble 100 if that helps at all
The weight is not that unreasonable despite all the whiners on the internet that bring this up. For example an Ampeg portaflex cab (no amp) is 45 pounds. There are many cabs and combos that are right around 50 pounds.. its only the rumble and Ampeg Rocket that are about 10 pounds lighter for similar performance.. If you like the sound of those and want it 10 pounds lighter, then go for it, but I don't like the sound of either one and I don't think 10 more pounds is that big of a deal.
I do however want to hear a 2x10 Rocket with my GT1B or Core to see if it sounds a lot better using the BOSS brain.

Thats good to know. I think I might pull the trigger on the 210 just for the extra headroom and I'm guessing 2x10s will sound better than a single 10. If the weight turns out to be a problem I can always get some kind of trolly with wheels to make it easier to move. Cheers.
Well it does have this control feature. Which I imagine could be useful for confined spaces.
Also one could delve into the Boss software and edit the amplifiers setting until their hearts content.
