The 110 would be an amazing practice amp. And you could probably do practices with it, and some gigs. The FX in it would be an added bonus.

Boss Katana Bass ...

You’re in luck, I currently own both. It’s a win either way, just depends on your needs. I use the RB-112 for practice and small gigs, and right now the Katana 110 is primarily for recording, but I think for practice, jamming with friends, and very small gigs (it has an XLR out) it’s a winner.
As we’ve written, the one-watt option is very good when you don’t want to bother anyone, but even at 9:00 on the master volume, you won’t summon the police with complaints.
I’m an Ampeg guy, but I gotta admit that each time I plug into the Katana I start thinking it’s gonna end up being my default practice amp for home. Give both a listen if ya can!
From what you're saying it looks like even without the 1 watt setting that the Katana can get some good tone at low levels. When I have the money available it's going to be a toss up between Katana 110 and the RB112. Right now I have the Ampeg PF20T and the Ampeg 112 Cab but I also want a solid state to use and something more portable.
OMG, are we related? Are you left handed by any chance? I also have a 20T and 112 cab. That’s my holy grail.
You can also get a usable sound of the 112 at reasonably low volume, so I really wouldn’t rank they criteria as high unless we’re talking that you’ll get thrown out if one E-note escapes the room.
Seriously, I’m right now recording with the Katana and it sounds great. I use the RB112 for just about everything. You can’t nor will lose with your choice.

I just got a 110 because there happened to be a used one at a good price near me. (I had been leaning 210.) It sounds amazing, but I'm just beginning to explore the sound possibilities. I had hoped for an amp that would inspire me to practice more between band rehearsals, and I think this is going to do the trick (at least for a good long while!).
Congrats, MM! Take a lunch because you're gonna be exploring for a good long time should you decide to look over everything offered. I've had it now for a good month or so and I'm barely scratching the surface though I'll admit, I tend not to play with things I already know won't interest me, such as ring modulation.
U tend to be one who switches out the gear in my music room weekly to fit whatever I'm recording, but that Katana has been locked in place all this time and I don't feel a need to change out. When ya get the chance, try the XLR out. It sounds great. Again, congrats and welcome to Katana.
I can't help but notice in that video that everything is mic'd and the Katana looks like it has an extra cable from behind (DI ?)
and the playback sounds like a multi-track mix rather than a live room mic.
A single room mic in front of the band would be a more balanced and telling test.
and I have never known a guitarist to play that quietly in a band setting either.
I checked out their other Katana bass videos too, although amusing for the gimicky factor, I call B.S. on the tests.

I’ve been shopping for like a month now for a bass amp. I think I’m settling on one of these bad boys but I’m not sure about the size. I’m certain the 110 will be loud enough, but if at some point in the future I want to be in a band, being able to extend the amp would be very nice.
When I read about the 110 on Boss’s site it does say it has 1/4” Speaker Out, but I can’t see it in photos, and I’ve read here that it doesn’t? And then I just read the 210 deactivates the built in speaker if you extend it…
I guess I’m just confused. It’s been a while since I was a touring bass player, but it does seem odd to not be able to properly extend a combo amp. That’s not new fancy technology or anything.
I welcome thoughts or feedback especially from folk that have either one. I have read much of this thread, but I’m not all the way through it yet.

The internal speaker load in the 210 is 4ohms, so you would need another powered speaker to add more speakers. In that scenario you would run a line out from the Katana to the in of the powered speaker. Not sure about the 110.
The 210 by itself has been plenty for the gigs I do, and I play in a large funk band.
Played another outdoor gig, no FOH, and the 210 sounded great and was plenty loud! Indoor bar gig tonight!
Yeah I’m certain the 210 is more than plenty loud enough for my current and imaginary needs, but it’s Soooo biiiig and heeeeeavy! I think the 110 is more my speed. Just a bummer it can’t be extended even though their website says it can. That’s really my only con against it.
I’ve never ever had a bass amp flap my jeans before and I’ve stood in front of some behemoths. Is it really possible to see clothing move from regular audio waves?
It is probably the same set up as the 210, the external speaker jack defeats the internal speakers, so to add another cab, it would need to powered. The reasoning is that you get the full power with just the combo.
