Super awesome cover, totally entertaining to watch.

Sounds like it could be the UNI-V effect found on most BOSS multifx. Maybe a tremolo/slicer effect into a downstream filter. ME-20B has no MIDI in/out so it's not that he's controlling some external devide with the expression. He has a Hothand into a some Source Audio box obviously. Do they have a Hothand MIDI controller? If so, then maybe into Ableton for filtering? A BEF Pro downstream? Beats me. You guys spend a couple more hours, get a magnifying glass, see if you can figure it out. :)

I think that the main wobble is being done by the keyboard player. He is pressing the buttons on the keyboard and which are controlling the rate. The bassist is filling in the sub bass wobble by using the hot hand. He only has a few stomp boxes from the look of it and maybe a volume expression pedal to simulate the "side chained" sound.....

The bass player is wearing a Hot Hand controller on his thumb. It's clearly visible from :12 to :19, and the bass player is credited with "wobbles" in the video description.

Incidentally, the sound isn't all that great. I wouldn't be able to say what is bass and what is keyboard. The most audible part of the "wobble" is the keyboard filter.

Until there's a better explanation for the Hot Hand, I'm going to think that going elsewhere is just complicating things....

The bass player is Nathan Navarro, and he is a real innovator. We interviewed him shortly after this video. This is from our blog on Nathan:

The first video has Nathan getting his dubstep wobble on an all-bass original tune. Describing his pedal board set up for the video, he says, “I ran my bass into a Boss SYB-5 and used the Hot Hand Midi-EXP for the expression input. I don't think the SYB-5 is intended for LFO stuff but it worked alright as a mid-rangy wobble. I'm still working on getting the lower frequency wobbles... BEF for the win. After the synth pedal I also added some distortion with an Ibanez Phat Hed overdrive (not the best distortion pedal in the world but it worked okay). Also, I made sure to keep some of the original clean output going through the mix.”

So, he uses the Hot Hard MIDI-exp in this video but in more recent videos it has been the Hot Hand plus BEF.

The more recent videos of his have astronomically fat wobbles. Just seeing him use the Hot Hand and hear the BEF makes me instantly rethink my pedalboard. It just seems so intuitive. And is entertaining/ mind-blowing to watch.

Interesting opinion. FYI, it is fun and you can hammer+wobble. I'm finding that it's like a whole new instrument and isn't as easy as you'd think. And if you find a keyboard that fits on a finger let me know.

Hammer wobble? That sounds so lame! And I never said it would be easy, I just said not fun. As for a finger-sized keyboard, with the hot hand you still need your bass, so it's not like the whole instrument fits on your finger. I'm just sayin...with all the trouble you're going through you really might as well just play a keyboard. The only reason not to is if you don't know how to play a keyboard, yknow?

Haha done, even though you asked questions and accused me of a lack of understanding? Seems cheap.

I've never seen it used on the headstock before. That, if practical, would solve my problem with it, as you'd be using your fingers to play. However, I estimate that it would too unwieldy in that configuration.

I'm fine with synth bass effects...the problem for me is not touching the strings with your right hand. That's the whole point of playing a proper bass guitar. Otherwise you're just kidding yourself...you should be playing a keyboard.
