Hi, I've been using a boss ME50b for a while and felt like starting to move away from the multi side of it. My first purchase was the Flashback 4x (I usually use delay especially to fill the sound out for our lead guitarist if he's out. Yes... On bass.). So I got it today and was using it. I noticed it is a little cleaner (I'm a suuupppperrr tone freak). And the delays feel like they almost kind of muffle the little stuff (cracks, hard hits and the like). It feels like its almost identical (I only use 400ms and analog anyway) but it's just slightly off. It almost feels like it could be a bit rougher but I've messed with it all day and tweaked but I didn't know if anyone else experiences this. Also, I am keeping the boss. Was wondering if anyone would recommend any complementerary pedals to it (even though its got like everything) Thanks!

have you try to use the toneprint editor and create your own toneprint?

I will add saturation, higher FB Hicut, and a tiny bit modulation so that your repeat will sound different from your clean, (From my understanding on what you are after), and than i will set the mix low when adjusting the parameter on the pedal as the higher saturation might bury your clean signal

That might be it. Sorry I can't be more specific. I'm still using the boss drive so I'm not actually looking for grittiness as much as when I have the high end to have more of the pings or in between bounces (I know the flashbacks got a quarter/eighth setting but they still feel muffled or like they don't "peak" as much as the boss delay. The low end is great though and the background sound (some of the mods) are great but I wasn't sure what could get the high end to be ever so slightly more "prominent"
ahhh...maybe i get what you meant try using the 2290 setting (from my understanding it is the TC version of the Digital Delay), from what i remember using the boss digital delay is that their repeat sounds exactly like my clean sound, to similar that i get a memory boy instead
