Gonna have to echo everyone else and encourage you to look at what you're playing! I use a broadly similar setup, an EHX Octave Multiplexer into a muff or rat, (Fuzzrocious ones, FWIW) and it doesn't like going below A or fast playing so note substitution and technique are key. Chording and other playing styles will help broaden the range of sounds you can get out of your bass just as much as a pedal too so it's well worth looking into.

boss oc-3 + big muff pi

I mean one of my favorite band bassists lightning bolt I know uses a oc-3 or 2 maybe? Either way they play very fast and I have been able to pull it off fast but not using a big muff with a metalzone it worked well I like the sound of the muff better so I know if I keep messing with stuff I will eventually figure something out or I may just try the muff with some chorus either way thank you everyone for your help and input
Check out the octave up recommendation too. Sounds like it may be more useful to you but also, unfortunately, usually way more expensive and difficult to find IME. If you are going to try a chorus pedal check this thread out.

I was thinking octive up I was looking at the micro pog but when I went to guitar center last weekend they kinda pushed the oc-3 on me now I wish I had not bought it and just gone with the micro pog. I will def check out that thread and thanks again!
Return the OC-3 and get what you want. As long as you haven't destroyed that OC-3 and have your receipt, you shouldn't really have a problem.
Either way, go get what you want. POG's got versatility for days.
The guy in Lightning Bolt also plays very high up on the neck and with a banjo string on his bass.
The thing to realize is that because it's an octaver,...a high E (7th fret on the A string) with an octaver on is essentially enharmonic (the same note) with an open E without the octaver on.
But because you are using an octave pedal you are trying to achieve some goal of alter the tone,...I particularly use mine to achieve some sort of synthy or organy sound and to completely mask the natural tone of my bass (gasp).
If you are expecting an octaver to track open E,...then you need a MicroPog or other digital octaver.
FWIW,...I can play relatively fast with my OC-2,...but I play it in the right fretting position on the neck.
