Both PA speakers have lost thier woofers. Need recomendations.

We set our PA up the other night at the gig and found both our Peavey HiSys speakers would only produce a very high, tinny sound from our Peavey power amp.
We have checked and its definitely the speakers (we ran our monitors from the amp and they were fine) but i cant for the life of me figure out whats happened.

I THNIK the cross overs have gone. Both woofers apparently look fine although im not in a position to test them out as they are at our guitarists house.

Anyway, we have decided to get a new pair of speakers so would like some recommendations.
We use a Yamaha desk to feed 4 vocals, two guitar amps (just for a bit more spread) Bass and bass drum) in to a 2600watt Peavey power amp. We also use a Peavey active sub.
The HiSys speakers are 4ohms 300watt continuous, 750watt peak (i believe) and these have been loud enough so far.

Only small gigs, 200 people max. Just functions and social clubs so we dont have to fill the room, just the dance floor.

Money is tight so budget is up to £500 (we are in the UK).
We quite fancied the Peavey PR15 but power rating seems a bit low. I guess the Eurosys range would be the closest we could find in the Peavey range although we dont mind a different brand.
Has to have a 15" driver as we also have to run ipods and CDs through them. Light weight would be good.

They aren't fried. We've done over 200 gigs with this set up.
Seems like its the cross overs that have gone. The woofers look fine.

Ive been told it could be a high DC current spike that could have blown the crossovers.

It might just be a simple case of putting new fuses in the speakers but at the moment i cant get access to them.

If the crossovers are fried, they can be replaced. Peavey sells replacement crossovers. They may not be the original specs of your PA cabinets, but that might be a good thing as they use newer components.

It's possible that the HiSys crossover is bulb-protected. The bulb is (in its basic form) a fuse. The bulb can be replaced.

I'll always opt for fixing perfectly serviceable gear than replacing it if you don't need to.

Take 'em to a repair shop and it will probably be a surprisingly cheap fix.

You can destroy a woofer and it will look just fine... If you seized (by over extension) the voice coil, the cone won't move freely when push on it but it will usually look just fine from the outside..

Ive still not heard back about the speakers but ive got a question about upgrading them.
If i was to buy a higher rated basket is it really that simple to have more wattage (or headroom at least) without changing the magnets?
I cant see a 500watt, 4ohms BW but i can see you can get the basket. Would our magnets be worth using or do i need to get higher rated magnets as well?
Im just thinking that it might be a wise move to have something rated a bit higher than the ones we have now.

sorry, ive no experience with all this stuff.

I don't know if you can upgrade just the basket. I will tell you that I just blew a Peavey 18 and even when I took it apart the voice coil showed no wear. Usually there are burnt marks or even a separated coil or you can feel it rub before you take it apart. I've run Peavey stuff for years and I over powered our subs and we were changing baskets every 4 months. I got a lower rated power amp (maybe 1.5 times the RMS of the speakers) and it took 4 yrs to blow a speaker. I'd definately cut down that power.
