Bought me an SX (Essex)

Hey guys,

I know they are millions of threads here on TB about SX basses, but I bought one a couple of weeks back and have been amazingly surprised by it. I haven't played a 4-string in about 10 years, but this thing is definately a sweet little bass for under $200.00 bucks. I will try to post some sound clips later, but going dry or through my Avalon, this thing sounds amazing. I couldn't find any design flaws or anything wrong with it that you would expect for this kind of money. Being a lefty, I am used to spending $2K - $3K for a great bass, but I am glad I snagged one of these.

I've done a lot of reading and listened to several sound clips of people that modded theirs, but I don't think I will. Probably just the bridge, if anything. Going through my Avalon, I love the tone that I get and there is no reason to dump any money into it. If this tone isn't what I am looking for, out comes the Warwick Thumb or my Stingray... or any of the other basses I have. lol I was a great score!

IMO, the LTD bridge is a nice bridge, why do you want to replace that?

"if anything"... nothing concrete yet and no particular reason. I do like the current bridge on it.

Just put a Gotoh on my FrankenJazz and it might add to the basses appearance, I don't really hear a difference. I did get to learn about shims from this mod, the larger diameter saddles caused the strings to sit higher off the fretboard.

I feel the same way, bought one through Rondo, tried paying only to have them send me an email saying that they don't ship down this way. If you look around though you might find one sitting around your local music store. I was lucky enough to find a store in Sydney which stock the PJ model (musicians avenue Fairfield). Check this link out too (Invalid Link Removed) they only have a few but its better than nothing. Also (Link Removed) these guys have a bit more

yeh but we have nowhere near the vast selection which you guys have. In the store where I bought mine there were at best 2 or 3 different SX basses available, nothing more

Complain to the vendor. If there's interest I'm sure they want to make money.

I don't think they'd do it for 1 person. I'm sure there needs to be a bigger interest.

Not really, the main Australian importer for SX is AMS who don't really seem to pay much attention to customers, first they told me SX don't even make a J-style bass, only PJ, then they said the J bass is discontinued and that SX won't allow them to ship any other products. On top of all this the store where I bought mine have no idea what these guys are on about as they do clearly sell SX related products, so its all pretty confusing down here lol.
