Boutique Aerodyne style basses?

I've never liked the look of fender strats. In fact, I would go as far as to say I would never want to be on stage with one. Unfortunately that distaste has carried over to Sadowsky and G&L and the like. Which I find is really unforunate, everyone always raves about them, but I feel I could never comfortably play one, simply due to the body style.

Then I saw an Aerodyne.

It's gorgeous. It just screams class. It's the opposite of what I like, I'm a cirrus/alembic guy myself, but that clean cut look just grips me. Now, as much as I like the Aerodyne, I want to know if anyone else has done that deep color, non-contoured, white/cream binding look before? Are there Sadowskys like this? Or are there any boutiques that have pushed that market?

I really love the look and hope to get one that's not a fender .

So, there's that.

No exactly boutique, but plenty of options. Unfortunately, they aren't currently doing color matching, and none of the options are quite what I'm looking for. Maybe another time.

Any other options out there?

Can't think of anybody big who does binding on top like the areodynes. However I'm sure you could go through the luthier section, and email/pm some luthiers on here to see about getting a custom job done.

Yes. Custom sadowsky would run you probably 6 grand or more.

I would still check out the people here. There are some amazingly talented luthiers on this forum who create beautiful pieces of art.

Out of curiosity...why don't you want a real aerodyne? they're fantastically made basses.

Stay away from parts basses. Warmouth necks are just plain bad. Non seasoned wood, bad fretwork, etc. Buy the Fender. Aerodyne's are awesome.

The problem I have is color choice. I like the blue ones, but they're few and far between. The colors I like most aren't routed from the back, like dolphin grey, and I like the rear routed ones.

It's a conundrum.

Also, inexplicable hatred for fenders.

Willing to get over it, if I find one with the right aesthetics.

Okay, so what can you tell me about the difference in import/non-import aerodynes? I know the imports are lacking in color choices, but is that the only difference?

Could always get one, get a custom paint job..that'd be a lot easier then finding someone who would custom make one,and cheaper. Yes thats the only difference, fender japan has more color choice.

Bout 300 bucks give or take some. Pro's do custom paint on les pauls all the time.

Yeah, Warmouth sucks. Warmoth, on the other hand, has many supporters on this website who are fans of their work...

you could check into importing one from Japan- they have a huge selection of aerodyne style basses. Some of those are really striking.

Oh no! The only blue they offer is front routed.

I might just look into getting one and repainting. It'd cost about the same as getting one new and importing, except limit my color choices.

Sorry for the fender hate, but I just hate big name brands. I'm willing to give it a shot.
