I don't find it hard to get a sound I like. I have been using effects for many years and have some experience working with complex effects so I may not be the best person to ask. I find that Iron Ether stuff, in general, is designed to allow a very wide range of sounds. These effects can be pretty tame or totally outrageous. That is why some samples you hear on the web may seem pretty crazy. My settings are pretty mild. I usually use it with modulation off, 3 voices, filter set around 11, and mildly detuned. I think this is good for fattening up the bass or for use with overdrive. Having a comp before chorus really helps too.

I nearly got a waterfall not so long ago.
But with all those obsolete parts one hears he uses for it I thought ...'maybe not'.
What if something breaks and the parts are no longer to be had in order to repair...

In that case I guess it would be time to find another chorus pedal. :)

Would this thinking prevent you from buying or playing a pre CBS Fender or any other vintage gear? I personally play the gear that sounds the best to me. If mine broke and couldn't be repaired I'd just pull my TC SCF from retirement or buy something else.

It's a new pedal and for that reason quite a different thing than proper vintage gear. I wouldn't like to put it in the same box.
Luckily I haven't found much that attracted me to most vintage P or jazzbasses. They simply were no better than good new ones I played and therefor not really interesting to me.
Some old amps however have been tempting, I have to admit. I would have a B15 or a B12N if I found a good one regardless of old parts etc but only because I know one or two very good repair guys that build tube amps and would be able to help me out if needed.
as to the waterfall; it is quite pricey for what it is, I found. Otherwise I might have gotten it regardless of the parts used.

I think the poly was quite easy to dial in. It seems overwhelming at first but once you know what knob does what and sit down with it to familiarize yourself with what it does, its really quite simple. Just like any other pedal. It was simply one of the best choruses Ive used. Very lush and pronounced to subtle and barely there. It can do a lot in between as well. Great pedal. Id still have it but then I found out how good Source Audio stuff was and sold the poly and went with the SA orbital modulator. Im happy. I still miss my poly, but again, Im happy with my orbital. Does a very good job on chorus. And a few other things. And its more inexpensive.
