Only thing I can suggest is maybe try an all synthetic set of Evah Slap strings. They slap nicely, have an old school pizz and are wrapped in...silver?...i dunno something thats more arco friendly.

Double Bass Bowing On Nylon-Coated Strings

I've tried Nymans, but not on nylon. I don't think Nymans is better than Pops for anything, actually. It is less sticky and less sticky rosins will slip more for a beginner.
