Boycott Monster Cables!!!

In the interest of fair reporting, I'm posting a reponse from Monster Cables CEO, Noel Lee in regards to reports of frivilous suits against name trademarks.

http://www.audioholics.com/news/pre...ssage-from-noel-lee/?searchterm=monster cable

Please note, the letter was sent directly through their legal department. Monster admit to "4 trademark oppositions a year".

However, this letter does not deal with the issue against Blue Jeans Cable and Mr. Denke.

Audioholics reported "Design patents represent nothing more that that: design. There is no technological content within design patents. The net effect is that Monster cable suing Blue Jeans is like you suing someone who copied the custom paint job on your car."

I await with interest Monster's reply to Mr Denke.

NB. I have edited to original post to make it more focused, dealing with the issues of the Halloween company operating on monster.biz and Blue Jeans Cable, the latter being the main reason the issue was brought up here.

Why do people on the internet always feel the need to get worked up when a large company takes legal action for some reason or another?

This kind of stuff happens all the time in the business world. I don't see the reason to get offended or worked up about it. If you don't like it, fine, don't buy their products. I don't because I think they're overpriced...I'm not going to start some kind of online crusade over it, though.
That's what a boycott is, and now I know what Monster is doing, I'm not going to buy from them. I'm thinking about emailing them to tell them too. I'm glad the OT posted this.

The funny thing about Mr. Lee's response is that he only addresses the issues of lawsuits. He never mentions the cease and desist letters his legal team has sent to various companies.

Ehhh I love monster cable. If nothing else the lifetime warranty is nice. I bought a monster bass cable 3 or 4 years ago and haven't paid for once since. If a problem ever comes up, I take it to GC and get a new one, no questions asked. $40 well spent, IMO.

Honestly, I have never bought a monster cable before, but I did have to replace one. My drummer had one in his jam space, and I stepped on it. The sleeve and tip broke off in the jack of my amp. I was ready to pay the cost because I was sure this wasn't covered by monster. Went to GC, and they said to were happy to exchange, as it was covered via warranty.

So, am I willing to pay 40 bucks for a cable that will be exchangeable no questions asked, even if their business practices and pseudoscience sucker people in? I still have yet to answer that even for myself.

Hey Grape, how goes man? It was nice hanging with you in L.A.

The problem with Monster, other than their shameless bully tactics and their overblown if not outright fraudulent claims of audio superiority (their bass cables being more bassy immediately comes to mind), is how often people need to use the warranty. It seems to me that far more Monster cable owners are needing to use the return policy (sometimes are great cost having to drive an hour or more to exchange the cable) than users of regular cables.

Also what good is a warranty if a cable fails on a gig? Better to buy two regular cables (one backup) and have lunch with the extra money you'll save. And a lot of those "regular" cables offer money back / replacement guarantees too, and unlike some Monster cables you won't risk damaging your jacks (which they of course won't replace for free).

Monster Cables = Monster BS.

For those who claim to hear a difference, why not prove it? :eyebrow: - http://www.gizmodo.com.au/2007/10/james_randi_offers_1_million_i.html

"This is not Randi's first clash with audiophile reviewers who claim to hear differences in various exotic equipment. He promises a million dollars (which he has waiting in an account for them) if any could prove in double-blind scientific testing that their extraordinary claims are true. None have stepped up so far."

Have you ever had a cable just stop working on a gig? I haven't... I always hear the crackling long before a cable goes out. As soon as I hear that I take it in and get a new one. How many times has that happened to me in the 3 or 4 years I've been using monster cables? Once. My current cable is 2 years old and still works brilliantly. I used tons of other cables before Monster. Most lasted 3-6 months before the crackling and I needed to replace them.

But hey, whatever works for you.

I own a Monster Cable yeah it works just fine. I may keep it as a backup at this point but honestly I'm disgusted I'll go out and buy Bayou or Planet Waves from now on...I'm glad Monster is getting slapped in the face. Visirale have you read the entire letter from the owner of Blue Jeans Cables? I'm all about the free-market and what Monster is trying to do is what Microsoft is great at. It's called a MONOPOLY.

Well, I dunno about you but I'll get some dirty looks if crackling is blasting through my rig or the PA whether it's a gig or rehearsal or a jam.

I've had cables get cut, and plugs get obliterated.

How many times have I had to replace a regular-quality or home-made cable in the past 10 years, despite literally dancing on them while I play several times per week? None. Other than the literally destroyed ones due to mishap, where were easily repairable in minutes and for far less than the cost of gas to drive to a dealer for a replacement whereas Monster cables are not easily repaired if they can be repaired at all.

By contrast with your replacement, you're helping to prove my point. Besides, as I wrote above, a lot cheaper but equally good or better quality cables, from far more laudable companies, offer the same exchange deal.

Sup Smash! Hope all is well.

I won't ever buy another Monster Cable to be honest, but, then again, I won't ever need too. See, that is the logic you are going to see with lots of Monster Cable owners.

I bought just the regular instrument cable a long time ago, and I got a great deal on it at Guitar Center. Somehow I ended up with a second one about six months later, and I replace them once a year at a GC when I see one on the road or whatever.

Unless I lose one of the cables, I really don't have to worry too much about ever buying another cable. On the other hand, I have a ton of stage movement, and I am uncomfortable with wireless systems. Every once in a while I step on my cable and twist the bass too hard, etc. This usually does more damage to my bass than the cable, but sometimes I just up and damage the cable. This has happened with dirt cheap cables, homemade cables, Planetwave, etc.
