BQC arrived

Installed it into my SRT900DX, instead of Ibanez's own preamp. The difference is VERY obvious. Tons of growl and it's almost like someone wiped the dirty window. Clarity and transparency. Will post the clip later this weekend.

Nice! What pickups did you install?

Yes, I find EMGs are very growly. Actually, I've read some topics here on TB about griwliness and the most growly basses - the majority seemed to be EMG equipped. :-)

The first bass I ever built had a full compliment of EMG stuff. 40DCs, BQC, the works. It was a Warmoth, I had them put the neck pickup in the std. location (at roughly the "fret 24" position) and the bridge pickup was placed in the MM "sweet spot" location. I got an email from the production engineer there before they routed the body, he said I wouldn't hear much different between the two pickups due to their close proximity to one another if put in the spots I spec'd out. I insisted ... that bass was amazingly bitchen. It had the balls of a Rhino! Alder body, Wenge neck, and all EMG stuff in it. I miss that axe!

They're the only active pickups I like. EMG's are very clean but they have a ton of balls and respond really well to EQ and effects IMHO.

you guessed right on the money! EMG active J set. I love EMG pups. ever since I saw Days Of The New live on letterman when I was a little kid. Jesse had that great growling bass tone that only a Spector Bass can provide. That sound is the reason I play bass today.

same here dude. I only use Active pups in my basses. EMG does the trick for my sound. The HZ's are just as good sounding to me IMO. I have a cheap squier P-Bass with HZ's in it wired VT and it sounds great as well and makes a awesome backup bass!

I have a Late 90's SR405 that I put a BQS, a 40TW in the neck pos, and a 40 DC or CS(Can't remember which one) in the bridge pos in. Wired Volume(push/pull single to dual), Volume, B, Mid/sweep stack, T. Really made this bass come alive. Extremely versatile sound. Really has made this my favorite bass. SOunds great and plays great. Just needs a better bridge.

From what I hear, bqc gave it more air, transparency and definition. Eq is much more usable as well. I wish I could switch coils in 40DCs. :-)

Nice! Especially good when you drop from fretted notes to open notes, the contrast between the fretted notes and the open notes makes the note change more defined and clear.
