There a grandma, mother and daughter. The mother plays the role of both daughter and mother. When each of them takes one fish home, there are only 3 fish in total.

Here's a nice one:
you have two ropes, each of which takes one hour to burn completely. both of these ropes are nonhomogeneous in thickness, meaning that some parts of the ropes are chunkier than other parts of the rope. using these nonhomogeneous ropes and a lighter, time 45 minutes.

Note: Some clarification on what is meant by nonhomogeneous. For instance, maybe a particular section of rope that is 1/8 of the total length is really chunky, and takes 50 minutes to burn off. then it would take 10 minutes to burn off the remaning 7/8, since we know that the whole rope takes an hour to burn off. that's just an example; we don't know any such ratios beforehand. The point is, if you look at one of your ropes and cut it into pieces, you have no clue how long any individual piece will take to burn off.
 
Okay, here's one:

Three sailors are on leave and decided to get a hotel room. The hotel owner charges each one $10. He then decides, as they are doing a service, to refund the three of them $5 total. He gives the bellboy five $1 bills. The bellboy, in his infinite wisdom, decides that dividing five $1 bills amongst three sailors is nothing but trouble. He concludes that the only reasonable option is to keep two of the bills for himself and deliver the remaining three. The three sailors split the three bills so now they have each paid a total of $9 for the room.

If 9x3=27 and the bellboy has two of the bills then:

9x3=27+2= $29

What happened to the extra dollar?

Light the second rope on both ends AND in the middle (so it burns in two directions outward). When all pieces of the second rope have burned, 15 minutes will have transpired.

This one actually took me a while the first time I heard it. Then i heard it a few more times, but I'd forgotten the answer, so it still took me a little while to think of the answer again each time. :D

nope. Since the rope is non homogeneous, you don't know that lighting the middle of a rope will mean equal burn time on both sides. You're close, though.
