tried a search and nothing. what is the benefit of having a brass or other metal(nickel) string nut as opposed to plastic? thanks

Brass nut

I added a brass nut to my Fender Deluxe Jazz bass after the plastic nut broke. It's hard to determine how much difference it made with the sound because I also added noiseless pups and an Aguilar OBP3 preamp. It never broke again, and I never had any other problems with it either.
They look pretty cool too. If I could get one that fits I'd love a Warwick style Just-A-Nut for one of my jazz basses (the brass one with the threaded inserts).

My Alembic and Spector both have brass. Much different sounding with open notes, than graphite or bone.
I tried one and personally couldn't tell the difference, they look good though.
I hadn't heard that they make the open notes sound more like fretted ones, so I wasnt listening for it (so it could have done), I was told it would make the bass sound brighter....which it didn't.

anyone know where to find one in Jazz spacing with a flat bottom? or even just a normal blank that is 1.5"?
I added one to my BEADed Jazz. I heard a very slight brightening. But mostly, it makes me feel more Badass.
