Breaking a Bass

you could 'accidentally' drop it into a sausage grinder.

or a cement truck.

or maybe an incinerator.

but seriously, unless you straight up hate your current bass, i would recommend waiting it out. then you would have your new 'kewl' bass and your old one (it's always nice to have a backup bass)

1.put on bass
2.line up base of headstock with dresser or doorway
3.whilst headbanging some how jump backwards into doorway
4. At this point the headstock should be severed from the bass

if you dont like this method take the battery out of your bass (if its active) and show it to your parents and say its broken.

Unsolder or snip a wire and tell your parents it's broken. They buy you a new one, you resolder your old one and give it to a friend or someone who WANTS your bass. You shouldn't break anything on purpose, especially a musical instrument. Come on, man...

Lmao, I got that too, sounds a lil spoiled to me. If I had ever broken an instument at home, even on accident I probly wouldn't have been getting another and this kid is basically conning his parents...awesome. How bout making due with what you have or work to buy a new one yourself.

In related news:

My son busted the headstock off his acoustic guitar in 3 pieces.

I glued it back together and stuck that puppy back on. I guess I showed him.

Though he didn't do it on purpose (I think), he's still playing it 4 years later.

Also, what makes you so sure your parents will want to buy you a new bass right after you show them that you can't take care of the one you've already got?

This is it! I would not buy another instrument for my kid if he didn't show me that he could take care of the other one. Honestly I would buy a different one if he came up to me and told me the truth about not liking it.

i dont think there is much you can do that will enable to get a new one asuming your planning to claim on the insurance. My singer snapped the head off his Gibson ES335 and the insurance company just paid to have it repaired then paid the extra of the devaluation. So unless its going to be un-repairable, or costs more to fix then the value of the instrument which is unlikely, then its probably going to be a waste of time.

I had a Custom shop Fender Strat (from my guitar playing days) that was stolen from me by the moving company. (during a military move) When I put in my claim the little lady (who knew nothing about such items) asked me if I used the instrument in a band or if I have done any recording with it. I told her no. I asked why she was asking this question, she replied "well, people in bands have better instruments. So since you were not in a band, I doubt that you had this particular guitar" I explained to her that people in bands don't have money. It was a losing battle as I had no really good pictures of it, and I had purchased it from a friend. Bottom line, I lost my butt in that one. Someone out there has my guitar, and I got a frickin check for $300.

The moral here is if it is an insurance fraud issue I hope that you...Well lets just say if it was up to me it would be better if you took that leap in front of a bus/train like the others suggested. I would not likely be so kind. oh...smiley ;)

Don't. If you need to sabbotage your equipment to get better stuff you are doing something wrong.

Breaking basses is unacceptable in my book. You can break guitars, especially poxy CNC strats with no soul, but to me a bass is not worth breaking. Once a double bass got knocked over in my presence and the neck came off the body. It was lke having a whale carcus on the floor.

I learned my bass skills first on a Squier bronco... the cheap stuff. Did I smash it to get a new bass? No. I funded that bass myself. Infact I bought all my basses myself. I look after them because I actually put work into getting them.

If you feel no affinity with your bass then BUY your next one YOURSELF using YOUR money. You won't be smashing it for an upgrade then. Seriously I still have my bronco back home, I might never gig it, but I fancy something different once in a while and I play that wee bass.
