Brian Bromberg Carvin Model Part 2

Debating between a B25 and a SB5k....use to bolt on necks but loving the idea of a neck thru killer. Thing sounds like a killer JB if you ask me. Read all the goodies, anyone have some thoughts who can compare both?

I have owned both. I still have the B25P, but not any SB5000's. They are both stunning and amazing basses. The tones are almost limitless with the the Bromberg Pre and the SB active/passive pre, so lots of love there for both. The Bromberg pre is astoundingly wide and covers a lot of ground, tonally.

But for me, there's just an ergonomic and overall comfort that I have with the B25 over any other bass I've owned. The balance is perfect both sitting and standing, and neck just feels like absolute 'home' for me. The SB neck neck runs a close second to the B25, and they are both way ahead of everyone else, at least in my world.

I'm actually looking to add another B25 at the moment....

Thanks for the info Grateful. I had a B50 that was setup like a SB5000 and it was a great bass. It seems tonally these basses can go almost anywhere, with maybe the B25 doing a bit more because of the mids.

I am thinking the B25 will be lighter and I just love Carvin's satin matte finish. The B50 was big, I guess the SB5000 is even larger. I agree that the ergonomics seem better on the B25 as well. Might just take a plunge. Debating if I should do the piezo as well.

A question for all B24-B25 owners. Is this instrument capable of producing a "warm" tone? Even in Mr. Bromberg's clinic video when he had the controls set "flat" it sounded very bright to me. Any feedback from B2 owners would really help. SERIOUSLY considering a B25.

Along with a P5 w/flats, I use my B25P strung with Circle K balanced strings for a Classic Rock/Blues cover band. The preamp is sooooooo versatile that I have no problems whatsoever dialing in whatever sound I need.

Except, of course, for the P w/flats sound....

While I wait for someone to offer up a use B25P fretless for sale, it's time to think about my next B25.

This one will be an S model with a maple neck and humbuckers that will likely wear flats full time. But I am totally stuck on cosmetics and am turning to the collective here for advice. Here's the configs I've been contemplating. Again, the only non-negotiable item is a maple fretboard (birdseye or flamed).

- All tung oiled walnut neck and body. Chrome hardware
- Metallic Green w/Birdesye
- Jet black, black hardware, Flamed maple, Bromberg inlay on 12th
- Jet black, black hardware, maple, black blocks on neck

I've also considered some of the pastels, but I already have a SeaFoam Green B50/P-bass.

I am wide open to suggestions, and would love to hear some ideas on some other configs!

If you get Jet Black, go with the satin black.

If I were to order a Bromberg right now, it would be:

Walnut neck
Ash body wings
Rosewood board

Crimson Red (that's translucent red) with black headstock.

I'm also a big fan of this look on the LB70. Might look cool on a Bromberg:

Carvin's description: LB70, umber stain with sunset burst edges on flamed maple (FSS), birdseye maple headstock overlay (BMPH), birdseye maple fingerboard (BMF), rounded body sides (RB), abalone dot inlays (ABD), HB2 bridge pickup (HB2), HB2 neck pickup (HB2N), coil splitter (31), Dunlop straplocks (SL)

It's going to be an 'S' series, so no fancy tops. Also, it's gonna have a maple fretboard.

I had a satin white B50. They are cool finishes!

well generally speaking, I think the Bromberg would look absolutely hot with Ash body wins and any color of translucent finish.

For a maple board I'd probably do a mahogany neck.

I read in another thread that Carvin will do maple fretless fingerboards with an epoxy finish if you call them and ask for it. I'd love a B24S made totally out of maple. Maple sides, 5piece maple neck, fingerboard and all... Wonder if I should call them and see if they'd do it?

Damn. I don't remember Carvin offering capping the back of headstocks on their option list. That really sets one off. That's Ken Smith/Alembic stuff there. I wished I would've sprung for the flamed Koa as opposed to straight koa on my LB75. It's a beautiful wood either way, though. There's just so much depth in that flame. Nice.

Kinda like this one (except for the fancy top...)?

THAT is why I keep coming back to Carvin!

Sure, I stray and take a long look at Warwick and Spector, but then something like this comes up and I'm right back where I belong!

The option of a maple frettboard with hard as nails finish for a fretless has really gotten my attention lately.

Ok- time to fantasy build a Bromberg B25S fretless, mahogany neck and body with BEM HAN...
