Nice quote of "A Love Supreme" at the end. He is indeed a monster player, but the tone is a bit much for me.
The video editor either has some attention deficit or watches too much TV for inspiraton... Bromberg is soloing, not the drummers left elbow.

I agree. Brian has killer hands. As for the tone...I would love to hear his bass in person acoustically to see how similair his amplified, recorded, and actual acoustic sounds are. It's a good sound, however it doesn't pull me in quite like Ray Brown, Percy Heath and maybe Rufus Reid. My little sister was actually confused when she saw the acoustic bass, because she thought she was hearing a fretless electric from the other room when I was playing the link.
That being said...he certainly has clarity, facility, and chops to go around. If I could borrow someone's facility he'd be at the top of the list.
Hey there, I wanted to share with you about the You Tube video. The video was shot live in the Blue Note club in Tokyo Japan earlier this year. There was one hand held camcorder for the straight on audience shots, and there were two stationary cam's on stage. One cam behind Dave Weckl the drummer and one cam behind Jeff Lorber the pianist. Dave edited all of the cams together to post it on his website, so there might be a lot of drum shots since he put it together for himself! I'm very happy that he took the time to do this, specially since there is so little video of me playing out there. At this point he only edited one song but there is the whole rest of that set of music that will be posted in the future.
The sound on the video was his monitor mix coming from a stage mixer the he uses to control his monitors. But because of the monitor and live sound situation you are only hearing the pickup on my bass and not the mic that I blend with it. Unfortunately my bass sounds very artificial and unnatural, but that's only coming from the monitor mix. The house sound was totally different. Even though the sound is not right, it's way better then not having any video at all! Again I want to thank Dave for putting in the time to edit the vid, it was a great surprise.
I will try and post an edit of just the handheld cam of the tune when I have time. With just the camcorder you hear the live sound as it came off the stage. In ways it is nowhere near as good as the vid that's out there now, but in other ways you hear a more natural bass sound with lots of mic, and the band sound has a lot more energy to it.
Even though my bass sounds like a big fat fairly out of tune electric on the video, I'm so pleased to have a video record of a very memorable gig!

it´s always interesting to hear what the players who are discussed here have to say by themselves, much better than to read secundary-information most of the time.

I have always loved Brian's tone.. especially on Wood and Wood II. My Fiance who's a sax player but really doesn't care so much for the bass even loves his tunes.
