Brice HXB-405 Short Scale 5-string!

Looking for a short scale 5-string? They're back in stock at Link Removed

At $299, how bad can it be? 30", active/passive, etc. I just ordered one; I'll add updates once I get my hands on it. This is the only place I;ve found that has these; last time he ran out, it took 6 months before he got more. This company, home-based somewhere in SE Asia, also makes short-scale 6 strings, and regular scale basses.

Seems like they have limited stock at times. I just picked up a used Brice 5 string fretless over the weekend. Great playability, neck is very similar to Ibanez thin wizard neck. Decent active sounding EQ but only has one tone control. Definitely worth the money. It has the more narrow string spacing.

That's what bugs me. Brice makes really nice stuff, the price is more than reasonable, and I'm ready, willing and able to buy one (or two; the short scale maple 6-string looks beautiful!) If the electronics aren't quite up to snuff, then there's always the possibility of EMG or Aguilar PUPS and harnesses, and it would STILL be a bargain! But this is the only guy that's got 'em, and he don't got 'em!

Just because their web site screws up, they're not a reliable dealer? That's ridiculous. When you put the item in your cart it tells you it's out of stock. They'd be unreliable if you put it in your cart and then a week later you get an email saying it's out of stock.

Rondo's stock changes very frequently. There can be basses on their web site that go out of stock in the same day they're listed.

I think, and many people agre, that Rondo is one of the most reliable musical instrument dealers around.

They're a reliable dealer that makes good instruments, especially for the cost. However, some of their instruments are better than others. I has a Z6 for about 2 years and it felt like playing a gross glossy tree trunk. I think rondo has the hang of building guitars better than they do basses.

I think the OP may have meant reliability of the stock quantities? They do tend to have limited stock and it does take some time to replenish some items. Worth the wait IMO. Hang in there they may have more in a few weeks.

I actually am tuning E to c; I had to put a piece of matchbook cover in the 5th slot on the nut because the E was buzzing on the 1st fret. That would mean that the low B was a pretty good fit, as nearly as I could tell before re-stringing it.

I always get a wee twinge of jealousy when I see what you fellas get from Rondo.

Customs and shipping costs to the UK are quite high so we have to look for re-branded
basses in Europe and hope they came from the same factories Rondo use.Sadly that
limits the choices somewhat,could I find a short scale 5-string fretless with quilted top ?
Not in this life.

I stand corrected- Rondo is a very reliable dealer. When I pointed out this discrepancy, Kurt immediately corrected it. I have since had very good dealings with Rondo music and recommend them highly!

I bought the longscale version of this bass a while back. It is a very nice bass for $319 shipped.. I wasn't sure if I would take to a fretless but I find that I like it quite a bit. The stock EQ is ok.. but I ordered a [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] for mine. I have not installed it yet but I hope to be able to do that soon. I am not sure if I will change out the pups or not unless I can find a decent used set here on TB. I will see how the pre amp goes.

It's been a while. I finally got the Brice short scale fretless bass. It is very playable, and has the Jaco buzz. No fret lines on the finger board, but dots along the high side of the neck. $325 at Rondo Music.
