Bridge Grounding

Hi All. I just picked up a project bass that has an older EMG humbucker in it. 9v active with only vol/tone controls. I'm installing a new bridge on this one and when I pulled the bridge, there was no ground wire. I'm new to the DIY bass electronics thing. My question is, Do you need to ground the bridge on an active bass? Thanks for the help guys.
