Bridge PU Cover- Yay or Nay?

I challenge anybody to tell me this doesnt look good!
And playing whise, it does take a while to get used to, but i think its interesting because it makes you play in places you wouldnt really play that much without covers and thus makes the bass sound really different than if if didnt have them!

I adore the look of Jazz basses with the covers on, but I find they limit access to the strings far too much. I put a pair of ashtrays on a MIJ '62 reissue. It looked beautiful, but I soon regreted the decision. Eventually I sold that bass with the covers on.

I take the same stand with Rics; the cover looks nice, but taking it off is the way to go IMO.

It is a more finished look with the covers on, but in addition to inhibiting some players' access to the strings for playing, covers have to be removed and replaced to make adjustments to the bridge and/or pickups.

I've never used them on my Jazz-type. My compromise with the P-type is I only use the pickup cover. It brings the benefit of keeping my hands and fingers completely off of the pickup while I play, which is a good thing.

You don't find it nice to rest your palm/side of hand on the neck pup cover when slappin' da bass? That was the only reason I left (or installed) neck pup covers on my previous Js. During a clinic a couple of years ago, Marcus Miller mentioned that was why he left the neck pup cover on. I tried it. It took about a week to get used to, but I wound up loving it.

As far as the bridge pup cover goes...two-sided tape? It'll be slightly ghetto, but you wouldn't have to drill.

Looks 100% better. If it won't get in your way, do it. If you change your strings every day it might get annoying though. Not sure I'd want my one and only bass to have covers, but if I had a Fender along with my other basses the Fender would have both covers.

Just don't put it on crooked.

My Pbass copy came with bridge and pu covers, and I left the bridge cover on , as the bridge has 7 mounting screws and looks a little odd to me. Definitely looks good, it's my first bass with covers. The pu cover came off right away, just in the way.
I might take the bridge cover off for a while, just because. :D

If you are really that hesitant to do it, maybe you shouldn't. At least try it with double sided tape for a while, play and see for yourself without any power tools involved...
