Any mic stand that will line up a speaker will work. The Z Bar is also quite good as long as you have a way to hang it. And I chose the PR40 based on rave reviews from Justin Meldal-Johnsen. But I had tried a few other mics like the RE20, Sennheiser MD421, Beyer M88, a couple different Shures. They were all cool except the kick mics, but the PR40 was $75 less and much lighter than the RE20, which I would have gotten if not for the Heil.
As for the travel, we used to drive in an RV everywhere, except the RV kept breaking down, and a trip to Montana once made all of us suicidal. We soon phased the RV out and now we fly if it's longer than a 5 hour drive.
Jimmy (and everyone), have you found any significant difference with matching mics to different speaker sizes? i.e. some mics work better with certain speaker sizes?
