That would be me. Think I'm the only one here on TB. Moved here in 1980 from the Campbell River although born & raised in Vancouver.

Did you use to have (or still have) a Dingwall?

Dream Theater concert was unbelievable. Amazing. I was focused o. John Myung the entire show. His skills and technique are incredible.

I saw his tech and Petrucci's tech outside Starbucks having their coffee. I decided against saying hi and thanking them for their hard work because I didn't want people to think they were celebrities or anything.

Spent many good times there visiting my cousins, skiing Big White, waterskiing on the lake (hold your feet up after wiping out or the Ogopogo will nibble off your toes!);
Knox Hillclimb is one of my earliest memories, my Uncle took us kids - Lotus Elites, MGBs, 356, small-bumper 911s, Alfa Guiliettas, Fiat Spiders ...
Lots of great MTBing, still have some souvenirs from the races there (knee injury, hip injury, shoulder...), good times nonetheless!


I wonder what happened to my cousins' Traynors, Garnets and original Boss Chorus Ensemble and other pedals. Wish I had 'em, but I'm sure they're long gone.

I'm pretty fortunate to live in one of the best areas in Canada. Going camping this weekend at a lake 20 minutes from my house. Might get a round of golf in on Saturday (5 minutes from the campgrounds).

I hear you. That 1st time at the hill climb was probably in 1969/70 –'71 at the latest. That's back in the days when Kelowna was quiet, when the Regattas weren't riots with looting/pillaging, the days before... The Empire! Euhhh, sorry. Wrong galaxy.

Just noticed I'm #11. I'm honoured! Previously, I decided I wouldn't join any clubs on TB, so I've never asked for a number, but I guess I got one anyway. This is one club I'm happy to belong to; for my beloved BC, how I miss thee. Home is where the heart is!

Not only all that, but "11" is my lucky number! My one and only club...

Mmm, gotta go have some smoked salmon on a cream cheese bagel now to celebrate. Will munching, I'll continue listening to bass isolated tracks of Myung, Burton, Taylor and see who I can find isolated in the jazz realm.

I tried to learn john Myungs basslines. I gave up.
1. Didn't have a five string or six string
2. His basslines are crazier than Geddy Lees.

Quick question to you Vancouver bassists...

Do you think a Reggae band would be successful in our area? I've always wanted to play reggae, but not sure if such a band be successful as a classic rock band.

Thoughts?

Reggae - You've got to be kidding. How many 420 folks are in Vancouver? lol

I have a question: Aside from the Vancouver Int'l Jazz Festival during the June, where can we go to listen to live jazz in Vancouver? Does Vancouver have a jazz club?

By the way, my busy work schedule should ease up after May. I know the earlier proposed meeting was delayed. I was wondering if there might be another attempt in the works to schedule a GTG.

Personally, I would even be happy initially meeting some of you to discuss music over coffee or something. If things click, we could plan a musical GTG to follow-up.

I'm pretty sure there are a lot rock and roll bands that are sort of successful. Abandon Paris is a band I'd love to see do well.

I had a "pro" drummer off Vancouver CL tell me there is no market for reggae in Vancouver.

I really dont know.

One thing I do know is that I am not a dope smoker so if that is a prerequisite for me to be in a reggae band it wont work.

Other than what you can sell to casinos, corporate events and a handful of fairly unadventurous bars in a 1 hour radius is there much of a market for any kind of music that pays more than the door in Vancouver?

It seems to me the same old over-done classic rock is still what gets first call for private parties and the like.

...at least from my experience. I think that will change once the baby boomers are too old to have an impact... maybe another 10 or 15 years?
