Off topic but: is there anyone who is skilled at bass setups? I want to have going to long and mcquade or Tom Lee as a last resort and yes I heard about certain luthiers who charge decent money.

All the guys who get my business work Tom Lee or L&M.
Paul Iverson at the North Van Tom Lee and Dave Reimer at the downtown Tom Lee are both first rate setup and repair guys.
Jake de Villiers who does string instrument repair at the Terminal St. L&M is great too. He does especially good setups on fretless basses. His own shop is in Crescent Beach.
If you want to save money and do it yourself all you need is a decent tuner, a 6" metal ruler and a set of feeler gauges. You probably already have the tuner and the ruler and feeler gauge will cost you about $15 at Canadian Tire. Search "bass guitar setup" on youtube and you'll get a bunch of how to vids. It ain't rocket science and it is something every player should know how to do.

jazzonlyjazz - Actually, awhile back, I posted a CL listing and received many replies. Things just didn't click for me with any local musicians yet. So, there is some demand out there.
Well you were right. Someone did reply to it and I traded it fke a beautiful CIJ Geddy Lee signature.
It has some manufacturing issues like badly cut slot on the g string saddle and standard .45-.105 strings from d'addario seems to bend the neck too much for comfort. I put back the old strings on and the relief was back to normal.
We had tried to organize a Vancouver-area GTG awhile back but everyone seemed to be busy at the time (myself included). Maybe we should give it another shot.
At the very least, it'd be nice to meet some local musicians for coffee or something, and discuss music. If we feel comfortable around each other, then we could make further plans for a music-based activity.

I asked my mentor about this and he was like "why have a GTG with only bassists? Aren't there drummers and guitarists you can have GTG with?"
My response: "Well we're not really playing bass; we're just introducing ourselves and getting to know each other in person rather than on some forum...y'know?"
Maybe if it does become a thing, we can definitely hook each other up with guitarists and drummers and vocalists and all that jazz.
I'd love to discuss Rush stuff with other Rush fanatics...I'm the only one who loves that band to death in my life...:'(

Another bonus was that TalkBass folk seem to be fairly respectful toward each other. Not always the case in some other forums.

Another go at a get-together would be nice, but I fear that if the next one doesn't happen, there probably won't be one for some time. The big problem with the last one was that it was announced on very short notice. It won't be possible to please everyone, but maybe someone could volunteer to organize this by PMs to everyone to find out which days people can't make it and then figure out when most can make it.
Jazzonlyjazz, you should be able to use the strings of your choice on your bass. If the D'addarios have too much tension, then a truss rod tighten up is in order. If you can't do this yourself, taking it in for an adjustment would be good. I'm sure even some folks here would be happy to help. Let me know if I can be of any assistance.
