I'm thinking it didn't look as bad in YouTube as it actually was because of the grainyness. Personally I knew she would lip sync so that wasn't too much a problem, the dancing was subpar though. But for a girl thats had 2 kids... I didn't think the body was all that bad. I'd hit it.

I only saw one pic of Britney, and although I'm not a fan of hers in any way, I think she doesn't look bad at all for having two kids. One article called her out-of-shape... well, she doesn't look like a 16 year old any more, but she's NOT 16 anymore.

Her figure looks good to me. Maybe there are other less-flattering pictures I don't know about?

Ugh. I couldn't watch the whole thing. She should lay off the ludes.

MTV either needs to change its name or relinquish the rights to the phrase "Music Television".

I think they should consider a moniker that better describes their current programming. Perhaps, "Proudly Ignorant and Superficial Brat television." PISBTV.

I wanna create and book a Britney Spears tribute show. Advertize it like crazy, get a gal who can dance like her a bit, and have everyone think it's gonna be a real tribute.

Then she'll just stumble onto the stage, do a line of coke, drop a baby doll from her skirt ala GWAR, and mumble incoherently to the backing track. And after half a song, she just falls over like she's passing out, have guys dressed like mental ward caretakers strap her into a straight jacket and haul her off stage.


And then videotape the reaction of the crowd.

It does bother me a bit that much of the criticism has focused on her physique. Outside of an enormous weight gain or loss, how often does the physical appearance of a male artist even get mentioned?

I'm far from a Spears fan, but criticizing a mother of two for not having the same body as when she was a teenager is deplorable.

I recall being equally freaked out last year when I saw the 60-something Mick Jagger dancing around without a shirt on TV.

I don't begrudge Britney for having a different shape. She didn't look terrible, but she didn't look good either. She mainly just looked silly for trying to act as if she's still an 18-year-old ultrathin pop princess, when she's obviously not that person anymore.

She opened her routine with a few lines from "Trouble" -- the very same song that Elvis sang when he kicked off his famous 1968 "comeback" TV special.

The difference is that Elvis spent most of that show -- not doing his old gyrating-pelvis shtick-- but sitting down and showing some real SUBSTANCE in his performance. Britney would have impressed a lot more people if she would have done the same thing.

sarah silverman was funny, too. i watched some dvr'd parts this morning, mostly in fast forward, and it definitely seemed like britney's performance set the tone for the entire event.

This just shows the problem when singers depend on their dance steps, costumes and figures to succeed.

They are SINGERS. Their success eventually depends on whether they can SING.

In this MTV / YouTube world I don't argue that an attractive woman or guy has a leg up, and they should take full advantage of it. But take that away - and their lack of actual talent becomes painfully obvious.

When I listen to much of today's "music" I hear so much overdubbing and background vocal emphasis that half the time, I can't even hear the lead "artist" singing. That's usually a perfect indication that they can't actually sing. Those are the ones that are gone in six months.

Actual talent? That's debatable. I think Demi Moore and Katherine Zeta Jones are terrible actresses. As for Faith Hill, maybe I'm just not in the right demographic, but I've never been impressed by her at all. Prior to these disasterous last two years or so for Britney, I would have looked at all four of them as equally "talented", for whatever that's worth.

But true, they did a better job of losing their pregnancy weight. And my original post was perhaps worded too strongly. Deplorable wasn't the right word. Unneccessary is probably closer to what I was trying to get across.

Vandelay is right on when he said she shouldn't have tried dress like the person she used to be, and the outfit did invite criticism, but honestly, is that what passes for fat and out of shape these days? I just thought there were enough legitimate reasons to criticize her "performance" without cheap shots for not being incredibly thin.

I never thought Britney was "skinny." In shape, yes. But skinny? She's had some strong, meaty thighs that didn't look scrawny like Christina Aguilera or Lindsay Lohan or that walking skeleton Nicole Ritchie. I just saw her as in-shape. You can't be skinny, and still have the muscle strength to do all that stage dancing every night on tour.


But she's still a talentless hack.
