Broken pickups

Yeah, see spaz21387 above. Assuming you have diagnosed correctly, the pickup is really not "broken" it is just disconnected. If you are careful, you can strip back the delicate coil winding and solder it to a robust connection. Then test with an ohmeter for continuity across the pickup. Final test, connect it to an amp, and excite the pickup with a tuning fork. Do you hear the tone? Then its good. No need to remount it and restring etc just to test. Done it myself several times. saves money and hassle...
