Double Bass Bromberg question

I have been listening to Wood II lately (again). On the tracks 'Carry on Wayward Son' and 'Let Him In' is BB using multi-tracking or is he doing it solo in one take?

Brian, I know that you chime in every once in a while so if you read this I'd love to hear it from you. But if anyone knows, that would be great.

Listened to that rekkid a couple of weeks ago. "Wayward Son" sounds like solo bass, and I don't remember about "Let 'Em In"...but there was one other track that was definitely multitracked, I just can't remember what it was. Hopefully Brian will chime in and clear this up.

Blue Bossa had to have been multitracked. I was pretty sure that Wayward Son was solo but the other day I was found doubting myself.

Blue Bossa to me sounds like it was digital delay for a doubled sound. The delay is too even to of been tracked twice. Brian is an amazing player after all these years of playing BG I want to get into DB love the sound.

Hey guys, thank you for the kind words again. On my CD "Wood II" the solo bass pieces Blue Bossa, Carry On Wayward Son, and Let 'Em In were cut live with no overdubs or layering. All of my solo bass tracks are live solo bass tracks. That is something that I love to try and do. You can't fake it and I love having to rise to the occasion.

Shining Star I cut as three solo tracks, left, center, and right. The reason I did it that way was because there was no way I could play all of the parts of the song live without overdubbing. When I do solo tracks I truly do them as solo tracks. I actually hated the fact that I had to overdub to play all of the parts, but the tune is so cool and the vibe is well, EW&F!

For DocBop, I don't use delay on my upright bass, just some ambient reverb. I grew up playing drums and feel that helped me a lot with my time. Also two huge things that I worked on when I was practicing all the time was my time feel and intonation.

I highly recommend to all bass players acoustic and electric to practice with a metronome. People hire us to have good time as bass players, and practicing with a metronome will certainly help a lot.

Thanks Brian! You came through Austin, TX not too long ago and I'm sorry that my work schedule wouldn't allow me to make it to the clinic. I would have loved to have seen how you pull off some of that stuff.

Now that I know it is all solo bass I can listen a little more closely and figure out a little of it. But like I said earlier, that's just insane playing. Thanks again.

Not a lot of players can sustain interest solo past a certain point. You can, you should.

This thread made me get out Wood II again. Great, great, great stuff.

Thinking of Brian on the Stanley Clarke "Night School" DVD and this CD as being the same guy is pretty crazy due to the differences, but it's really hip.
