The new show is a totally different animal (no pun intended) from the 80's one or the Gen 2 and Gen 3 shows. It probably won't take you back to playing with your sister, but you may find it funny and enjoyable like we do. It takes a unique breed of man to check his ego at the door and appreciate the show without fear of handing in the man card, but we'd be more than happy to welcome you in if you find yourself enjoying the show! :)

Actually, I've seen the term 'brony' used to describe both male and female MLP fans. Most of the female MLP fans I know can't stand being called 'pegasisters' (myself included).

P.S. I'm not a 8-9 year old kid, ha ha ha. And fortunately, I haven't played with Little Ponies for a couple decades now. :p

Touche. As for the last part, I'm not really into cartoons, especially the ones featuring cute little ponies doing cute little things, but I might have another look at it. The part I just saw last night made me chuckle so it might be promising.

The hype and the whole brony phenomenon is what interests me. Again, no offense intended.

Half closeted Brony, here. I've seen bits and pieces of it, and this thread made me go ahead and start watching it on netflix.
It's good. It's a really, truly well done show. A lil less than halfway through season 1 and i'm hooked.

When I told my friends I started watching I got the "Whoa, i'm sorry dude.." reaction, so just kinda stopped talking about it. Glad to know TB is always welcoming.
Now i'm gonna get caught up before I delve in more on here, no spoilers :P

Yes! Pitchforks and torches!!! lol jk. Well my point was that it's a different ballgame entirely. If you played with gen 1 ponies, more power to ya...just remember to state it's gen 1 ponies!

Well a lot of it is tongue-in-cheek sorta stuff, where there are plenty of intentional innuendos if you look hard enough. I'd check out season 1 first, it's got a lot of stuff that anyone can find funny if they keep an open mind. I look forward to your request for a club number :D

lol, don't worry...I've had plenty that actually gave it a shot and turned out liking it too. The gut reaction for most guys is to be like "What? Oh God, no", but if they watch and like it then we've just gained another Brony! :)

So let me see if I have this right.

The writers of the shoe decided to name a clumsy pony Derpy instead of Ditzy as a tip of the hat to the show's large internet fanbase. Several parents of disabled children got upset at this because they interpreted that name change as a dig on their offspring, so they petitioned the show to essentially cut her out?

That's kind of pathetic...

Well, much as I hate to say it, we aren't really the show's demographic and Hasbro's going to listen to the key demographic (and parents ) first. I'd love to hear any boardroom discussions Hasbro's had on Bronies. But I don't blame them, I'm sure if you think about it you'd remember some real dust ups that have occurred over companies not listening to Moms.

Just playing it safe.

They said it was her name being "Derpy" and how she talked on the "Last Roundup" episode. Tabitha St Germaine (Rarity) did her voice and she DID sound a lot like a kid with down syndrome talking. What I said should be done is give her a different voice (think Bubbles from Powerpuff Girls or Brittany from Daria) and keep the name Derpy. If you heard the way she sounded when she talked at first, it was pretty wrong sounding IMO.

The name change was stupid beyond belief, the real issue was how she talked. I do find it stupid that they decided to change the name because of that as well. I really wonder how many kids do watch this show...because I work with grade-school children twice a week on a regular basis and never hear them mention it (save a few kindergarten-age boys...future bronies!!). Idk, maybe they are bigger in Canada with the kids than here. Either way, the voice was changed...here's a comparison video of the original and new:

**EDIT - Apparently they had an email from the lady who did the episode. Somebody else made the call on the voice for Derpy. Idk if the name change would have made a difference, but I think the voice is what grabbed people's attention the most. I did walk away going "ehhh...that sounds a little fishy for Derpy's voice, needs to be less 'special needs' sounding." Can't believe this was over 10 freakin email sent to her...though I'm sure Hasbro and Hub got more than her of course. Anyhow, here's the article
