Broughton Audio Super Thread

Sorry I got a little carried away with excitement. It gets ballpark P15 and SSDI and then puts its own SMACK DOWN on it.

FIFY. Good review. I appreciate your enthusiasm. The Archetype circuit is truly versatile. Subtle clean and voiced to clanky shattered tube driven tone with everything in between. Josh put a lot of thought and creativity into his original and signature design.

Archetype update:

I’m usually quick to formulate an opinion on gear. Up to this point I’ve only used the Archetype through headphones. Well, today I finally got to run the Archetype through the power section of my Skunkworks SVT into a Bergie 610. I played to a couple songs, messed around with the EQ during and in between songs, paused the music and instantly smiled ear to ear. I took a moment and thought to myself, “This is quite possibly the best preamp I have ever played through!” I ended the sappy moment and threw the music back on and played grooves for the next hour. In my opinion, the Archetype is the best product Josh has ever released. It’s versatile. It can get P15 and SSDI tones easily. Then it can do it’s own thing with what seems endless tonal options. It has awesome dirt on tap with no loss of low end. I don’t plan on ever getting rid of this thing. It’s just so damn impressive. Amazing job, Josh! I appreciate your thoughtful R&D and implementation to market on this one hell of a preamp.

I still need to run mine through an amp.

Out of all the products I've had the pleasure of trying, I do agree the Archetype is the best Broughton gear I've played, there's others out there to try but so far I also agree with it being the best preamp, period

Yes, P15 with its limited controls, still has a more vintage edge, SSDI is still king of sheer tone on tap, and clarity. I like to think of the Archetype as just another genre of preamp Josh makes, it just happens to be an original design

I still haven't seen a circuit even close to the way this interacts with the EQ

me too, me too lol

Sure loving my Messenger. It was the perfect finishing touch to my pedalboard.

Please someone educates me. :help: I am fairly new here so this might be a noob question.:bag:

It looks like that this Broughton guy could put an used toothbrush with a HPF on it on his website and this would sell out in no time.

Question: if the demand for these Broughton products is so high, why producing so few? Is it a marketing strategy or simply lack of capacity?:wideyed:
You need to read the entire thread to understand

USPS did deliver both my recent Broughton purchases earlier than initially forecast.
Just to add to the score, recently my Messenger took three weeks to arrive and detoured over 1,000 extra miles as it zigzagged its way from Chicago to Atlanta, "thanks" to the USPS.

This was the second "three-weekish" USPS train wreck in the past several months for me, the third in the last six months. Never had anything like this in the many years before the current Postmaster General, ever.

His solution is to make delivery even slower

Strange. My Fliptop Boost got down here to Dallas faster than some people in Canada and the North US got theirs.
