Broughton Audio Super Thread

I just picked up a Fliptop. I think I like the sound the best with the Cab control full CW but it cuts a bit more lows than I might prefer. I have to back it down to maybe 10:00 position to restore the lows but by then the pedal is really not doing much for the sound. Well, not as much.

I feed straight into the PA and run IEM. No amp on stage.

What have you found with it? What's your fav setting?
I commented in the other thread, but my settings for a p-bass with flats are:
1. treble, bass at max
2. gain at or just under noon
3. cab sim around 10 or 11
When I feel like playing pick, i'll roll tone back at the bass to 70% or so. If i'm playing fingers, I may back the cab sim off.

These settings get me good tone both in IEM and in most amps that i've plugged it into. Even plugged into my band's not-very-good rehearsal PA, the Fliptop tone got the attention of the bandmates for being deep and warm yet having good mids.

Where’s the lunchbox preamp?

I just ran my DJ5 bass > HP Filter > Apex > SSDI > Effects In on my Fender Rumble 500C. Holy Cow, Batman!

Sounded fantastic to my ears! The SSDI is just amazing.
It really is. The SSDI is one of the best. But I'll be posting that for sale shortly. At the ripe young age of 46, I'm going through what I like to call an "Ecclesiastical Season," (this is meaningless, that is meaningless, everything . . . including all of this bass gear I've acquired . . . . is meaningless, a mere chasing after the wind), or what others may call a mid-life crisis. I decided to ditch the huge pedalboard and go back to my rack setup for those times when I may need the big amp again in the future (though technically I still have the big board, as you might be able to tell from the pic).

After all of the buying and flipping over the past few years . . . and little-to-no gigging . . . I decided to go back to my roots with the rack, if I ever need it again. For most smaller gigs, which is all I have at the moment (churches, community theater, etc), this small board into my GK MB115 (which is basically just a glorified powered speaker with its EQ set flat) sounds incredible. I plugged an acoustic bass into this setup for a small gig over the weekend, and it absolutely slayed. But if I ever want any actual effects like dirt or modulation again, I'll probably have to dust off the old big board. At this stage in my life/playing career that is unlikely, but you never know.

If you had to choose one, Solarian or Studio Boost? Which do you use more?
Yes.

This particular configuration is relatively new. I have not had the Studio Boost long. The first and only time I used this set up so far was at a short set over the weekend. Prior to that, I haven't gigged since pre-Covid, about January, 2020, and the only part of this setup that I owned at that time was the SVPre and H/LPF - and this is actually the second H/LPF I've bought, so technically I didn't even have THIS H/LPF. But currently, at the one gig and when I jam in my headphones, what you see is all always on (except the tuner, onacounta that would mute my signal).

The Solarian and Studio Boost both do different, but wonderful, things to my tone. I couldn't imagine playing without either at this point. I don't run the Solarian dirty. Just as a clean boost with the bright switch to the left. It adds a great character. If I want a cleaner, crisper, more "high-endey" tone, I might put that bright switch in the middle for something like a theater gig.

Duh! What i meant, not what I said.
I use the same board. Love the size, and it makes me choose my pedals carefully!
Right. That's what I love, and it's easy to carry. But it's also what I hate. Because I can't really see ever turning any of this off for my basic tone. And if I want anything else, I'll have to break out the big board. I don't have an in-between board at the moment. If I had to, if I wanted a little dirt I could probably do without the Ictineo to make space, but it would be painful.
