Broughton Messenger v2 Alternative?

Looking for an alternative preamp pedal to Broughton’s Messenger v2, ideally identical in features (HPF, LPF, EQ capability) and size (4.6”x4.0”).

Or if someone’s looking to sell one…

Thanks in advance!

The new Empress ParaEQ Deluxe, maybe?

Although I like the idea of the Deluxe as a preamp - and it does very well in that role - it does not have a DI out. Pair it with a DI for the XLR, and you're there, but the total cost would be quite a bit more than the Messenger at $290 - when it's in production. One can get a Deluxe and a DI right now. The Deluxe EQ capabilities are considerably more than those of the Messenger.

I just finished checking the Deluxe product manual. It doesn't reference running the output with an XLR adapter, but it's possible it could work. I'd recommend contacting Empress support. [email protected]

I have gone the very expensive route of an Empress Para EQ II Deluxe in the post loop of a Jad Freer Capo, and a Rolls Personal Monitor for a headphone amp. It is fantastic.

Thought it lacks some of the features, the Tech 21 Q Strip covers much of the same ground as the Messenger V2. Even though the HPF and LPF are both fixed, I found the Q Strip more pleasant sounding than either the V1 or V2 Messenger after having owned all three pedals.
I'd be interested if you could elaborate in your statement. I've been considering a Q-Strip as well.

In what way is your Q-Strip more pleasant? Bonus that allows battery operation.

It’s hard to explain something so subjective. It just sounded better than either version of the Messenger to me. Others may feel differently, but the Q Strip sounded fantastic, whereas the Messenger just sound “good enough.” The Messenger V2 has the best feature set of the bunch as far as I’m concerned, but the tone just wasn’t there compared to other options such as the Q Strip.
