Brubaker brute 6 string petition

I started this thread as a petition to hopefully convince brubaker guitars to do a brute 6 string. So respond to the thread with 1. If you would absolutely buy a brute 6 string if one existed. Or if you'd at least think about buying one. 2. When would you consider buying one? As soon as possible or in the distant future. 3. Single or double cut.

I would absolutely buy one as soon as they were made available to the public. I think I'd prefer a single cut but I'd still have to think about it. I might want both.

I have a 5-string Brute SC. TB got it right with this one - these basses really are a pickup change away from being on par with a much more expensive bass.

But a six? Most days, five strings is about four more than I can handle. I have a six, and one of these is plenty for me. Still, I have no doubt that a Brute 6 would be a great bass. They do such small runs of Brute basses that I would think it might happen eventually.

Thanks for your input wvbass. For me personally a brute 6 would be perfect because I have always wanted a 6 but can't justify spending the money to buy one that meets my standards. I already know a brute 6 would blow everything else at its price point away. I have tried most of the 6 strings under a 1000 and they just don't work for me. I was hoping there were others that felt like me. Someone else here mentioned they were hoping for a brute 6 string, so I thought there would be more people who would also want this. Also I was told if the demand was there they would consider making a 6. Maybe they could just do a small test run if enough people respond to this.

I agree with wvbass. All Brutes are a pup and pre change away from being a killer bass that can hardly be matched at the final price point by anything in it's class. I personally don't know why more Cats are not playing on them. Everywhere I take my Brutes guys want to play them.

Yes! Thank you stix. I'm glad someone else feels this way. Please spread the word if you can. Thanks for your input Walt. Your new KXB is beautiful by the way. I couldn't agree more about the brute. Would you consider buying a brute 6 if they existed?

For this to happen Kevin would have to prototype a six string Brute. That's pretty much as involved as making a custom bass... it's done from scratch. For that to happen we'd really need to see more of a demand for a six... and so far that hasn't happened. Sixes in general don't seem to be big sellers IME. Even high end sixes tend to have a tough time at resale.

So let's say we see a hundred players interested in a six... how many will actually buy? And at what price?

I mainly play sixes so I'm not against a six. It just has to make business sense. Right now the best bet for a new Brubaker six is a custom.

Well I guess this will never happen based on what Brad is saying. If you look at my original post I tried to get people who are interested to respond with if they would be purchasing as soon as they were made available or not so as to give a clearer picture of what their intentions were. Buying a custom brubaker 6 string would be at the top of my list but I can't afford 3500 dollars at this point and won't be able to for years. At this point I only have one bass and it's my brute. I would like to start playing a 6 string sometime soon and hoped that a brute 6 would happen because no other 6 could touch it in the under 1000 range. Even if it were more than 1000 it would still be the best bass at this price. I guess I'll move on to other options.

I'm not saying it'll never happen, it's just the fact that we have a pretty full plate as far as work that needs to be done: fulfilling custom orders, trying to keep up with the demand for the new more affordable JXB Standards (not sure if a six will be available in that for the near future either), repairs, etc. We have a very small team and thankfully a very busy one too. We really appreciate the feedback. I'll let you know if we make any headway on this.

Ya, I wouldn't do it, either. Too many large overseas 6-makers who will kill you guys on price, and there's not enough demand for mid-priced 6's, I believe. Most folks who get 6's either go for a cheapo or a boutique.

BTW, last year I saw a dude playing with Dennis DeYoung of Styx, and I couldn't see him too well, but it sure looked like he had a Brute. Sounded good.

I hope that you guys decide to make one in the future. I personally feel that it would fill a gap in the 6 string market that needs to be filled. I also think that there are other people in my same situation, those who want a six but all the sixes in this price range don't meet their standards and they can't afford a boutique bass. I personally won't bother buying a cheap bass that doesn't meet my standards and almost all of the basses at this price don't. I think it will fill the same place in the market that the brute fills now, which is a bass that is low-mid priced bass that meets the quality standards of the of the decerning player on a budget.

6 string sell great in my neck of the woods. I mean, MTD has been very successful with their import 6's as well as Spector, Ken Smith Design and even super inexpensive like Essex. I really do think a Brubaker Brute 6 would sell well. Brad maybe you could do a signature like Andrew Gouche has with MTD and Kingston brand. 6 is what all my guys play, especially the gospel guys lol. Funny thing is I had just told a friend that I wanted a single cut Brute and he was like "I wish they would make a 6 string Brute." Brad I know you are the leading authority here on Brubaker stuff, Im just saying I think they should try it...maybe a limited run?

Thanks low end punch. Couldn't agree more there is definitely a market for mid priced 6 strings. Most gospel players use them and let's not forget all the metal players who always use sixes. I've also had a friend tell me they were hoping for a brute 6 also. Spread the word of you can. Brad , I was assuming they would follow the same price structure as all the other brutes. The extra string seems to add about 80-100 dollars to the cost. Then also the difference in price between the single and double cut plus the cost of extra hardware. I figure the double cut being slightly under 1000 and the single being at or slightly over 1000. There is an emerging market for mid priced 6 strings, look at the basses ibanez recently released in this price range or ken smith design. Both have a 6 at slightly under and slightly over 1000.

Thanks for your input Jason. I would buy a brute 6 because I want the sound of a brute 6, also I have no plans to change the electronics because the pickups sound great to me. I would also want the design and functionality of a brute 6 which could not be found anywhere else. As I have said before brute 4 is my main and only bass currently. I don't feel the need to change anything about it. I also don't like purchasing used instruments because of bad experiences I've had in the past. No other bass would compare to a brute 6 at this price. It's pretty hard to find a used 6 string for under 1000 and if you do there's probably something wrong with it or its a bass that was in the price range we are talking about when it was new. I also feel that brutes hold their value a little better than the average import. I see the old ones selling for 350-400 which is a little better than average resale for gear.

That's what I thought people might be expecting. I'll pass this on. Bear in mind, compared to Ibanez we're a tiny company with nowhere near the economy of scale at our disposal. Just saying.
