The Kingston will feel completely different just because of the scale difference 35" vs 34" with the brute. I had one it was just more of a stretch on my fingers and I didn't like it. Thats just my opinion , it comes down to your taste , although the mtd is more than capable tone wise and they are light.
I agree with most of what was said. I will add, however, that the Kingston's profile is pretty nice and not as bad for me as most 35" scaled 5ers.
I managed to find a JJX-5 in the Mediterranean finish brand new at a really good price, it should be here by the end of next week. I found a red one, but the mediterranean is really the one I wanted ,and although i like the MJX i think it will be better for me and easier to mod a JJX not to mention a little bit cheaper as well.
If anyone else is looking , the place I got mine has a couple more available so let me know , I also heard that the price on the new batch is going to be going up , and will be available, through a music store but don't know which one or when they will be released .
well I finally got mine a JJX5 Mediterranean brand new number b-0012 so I would like to join the club . these are great bass's ..

After playing them both for a little while ,I think the TBC 5er will take top spot,the neck is just wicked fast , I don't know what Jake at TBC uses for the neck but it is slick,I think the weight on the TBC is better to ,at a little over 7 1/2 pounds it's a little easier on the shoulder, but the brute is wicked too ,I mean it is really close . The electronics on the TBC has a mid control so that is hard to compare ,the brute has more bottom ,but the TBC has a wicked growl to it that makes you want to dig in. I plan on putting bartolinis in the brute ,not sure if I will swap out the pickups in the TBC .I paid the same price for both bass's so I have room to upgrade.
Barts in my Brute (with an EMG preamp with mid sweep) made a night/day difference. The stock pickups are pretty darn lifeless and flat. I can dial up pretty much anything I want with my setup.

I have the Barts too, but with a Bart pre. Makes a world of difference - almost too many choices for this simple mind. 
I have a set of bartolini 59j1 jazz pickups , and i think I will either go with the bartolini 4.6AP preamp, this is what i see brubaker using on some of his models . or I will go with the aguilar preamp, or an audere not sure yet though..
hey all you brute fans . I need a little help here! i have tried to give the neck a little relief and after backing off about 3/4 turn I have not really noticed any change, i have never in the past had to give a bass relief (there is usually to much) but the truss rod feels loose at this point , so should I keep turning it to back it off ? I know it is a duel action truss rod but I have not had much experience trying to give relief , the way it is now is really flat (like no relief ) i can barley fit a playing card at the 7th fret.
