Double Bass Buckle up, It's going to be a bumpy ride

We MAY be there already. I just downloaded Jamkazam (It's FREE). Supposedly it has very little latency (if you have fast web, which I have. Maybe we should start a new thread for this - in fact I think I'll do that right now.

Any latency it all would make it impossible, but it'd be cool if that were a thing... Other than a bunch of bass players, lol, hopefully there's some other instruments out in bass land....

luckily i have a teaching job at a local high school because my two other jobs are completely gone. I also bartend and play gigs quite frequently. I am loosing a few hundred bucks just tonight (st. paddy's day) since my bar had to close. gonna be tough as my wife only works part time and that money really helps.

i hope to be swinging my bass and slinging some drinks before the summer but whatever it takes...we gotta stand together.

Trigger warning: extreme house cat gore kill attached. Not for the faint of heart!

We’re are day one of “Shelter in Place” order. My wife and I are both musicians with day jobs. She’s a part time pre-school teacher....they’ve been closed for a week...luckily her boss is great and let them know they’re going to get paid no matter what...and this was before any stimulus packages were announced. All gigs are gone indefinitely, we both gig every weekend and it’s a HUGE part of our income.
My day job is considered an “essential service” as I provide goods to the county, city and state. Luckily I’m able to be at work and keep a 6’ radius between myself and others...still have to touch door knobs, etc so it’s constant hand washing and sanitizer.
My wife says her being home all the time now is causing the cats to be grumpy-

Hello, my name is Don and I'm an cataholic; I have more cats than I can talk freely about, and it has been 6 years since I adopted a cat. I also have one little dog.

This is Eddie, Lucille, Ciri, Suzie and Abita, eating. Our other cats are a little less sociable.

This is Buster.

They and their 4-legged house mates are really helping my wife and I put up with each other at home this week.

I read an article that claimed that cats are better at training humans than the other way around. I was completely whipped by my cat. An unusual relationship for sure. I've owned 3 other cats and all were somewhat dependent but this one was a world apart. I did whatever she commanded, whenever she commanded.
I don't regret it. I'd do it again.

My wife and I are absolutely sure that our cats think of us as staff.

That said, we love them, and Buster too. It takes real determination to keep from adopting more. Kittens are sooo cute.

I was primarily a dog person until about 35 years ago we got a cat that really touched my heart. That did it.

Edit: I have a brother who just is not a cat person. I think we are somehow not related. A few years ago he asked me, seriously, if we had names for each of our cats. I have avoided talking to him since then. :D

Samatza, I really feel for you and anyone who is now in the same position. Please keep talking to us on TalkBass here as you find your way forward. You will help all of us too. A 78 I am lucky to have a part pension and an adult daughter paying board that allows us to live frugally but I already miss the contact with friends, family and bass students/gigs as we batten down for the unknown future. Our only danger is that our daughter works in a small rehabilitation hospital for the elderly which assists in their recovery after operations, falls and sicknesses ,etc. She is right in the firing line to catch and bring home the virus.

Everything has ground to a halt up here in the Boston area, too. Thank goodness I'm retired, so I'm not losing my main source of income (SS and bent but not broken 401K) unlike most of my friends.

Still cold up here, but I have been going outside whenever possible. Today it's raining though, better get into the practice room ;)

Closing state parks? Did the feds close down the Smokies too?

With everyone (including me) staying mostly inside, it's worth mentioning that being outside is important to a lot of physical, mental and emotional health aspects of our lives.

Yesterday was the first dry sunny day where I live in a while, my little dog and I took an extended walk. Wow, it was beautiful, the air was so fresh and the sun felt so good.

Please, take a break from your house quarantine, long enough to get some of that goodness outside. It's amazing how much it can change your state of well being.

Hmm, so much musical talent just sitting around and anxious to play... Maybe in another 5 to 10 years of tech growth we can all sit down in our living rooms and jam online, in real time, without horrible lag issues, and pull it off tastefully. Unfortunately we're just not there now.

And here is the new thread for Jamkazam: Jamkazam - Play with multiple musicians in real time in different locations.
Ok it's not a cat photo, and it's poor quality because my flip phone is nearly 20 years old.. but you get the idea. Taken bout an hour and a half ago. Wish I could capture for y'all what that view actually looks like.

Nothing better than getting outside in nature with the dog. Thanks for sharing this.
