Budget Acoustic Bass

+1 to the Dean for a cheap acoustic,... I used to sell them at a local music retailer,... was very pleasantly surprised at how nice they were,....better than the Epi's, El Segundo or El Capitan ,that sold at twice the cost. We had a fretless model which really sounded great. I never was a fan of thier electrics though.

I have an Ibanez and it sounds awesome. The price is around $350 and I would recommend it. Watch out for the dean bass though, the body size is large and you have to get a special case if you want one. (Has to be a Dean specific case) The Dean sounds ok, a Michael Kelly Firefly is another good option @ $250. I played it and it sounds pretty good for the price.

You get what you pay for (most of the time) but all in all I would go Ibanez. Good luck

I was looking at an Ibanez AEB10 in the Dark Violin Sunburst finish. It looks great in the pictures (and it's priced at $350) but I haven't seen any photos posted by owners of the bass. I ended up finding a better deal on an EWB20WNENT from a local seller. It is a $500 bass but I'm scoring it at a great price.

I like the finish a little bit better (based on the pictures on the Ibanez site only) and the cutaway looks nicer, in my opinion, on the EWB20. Of course, that would normally come at a higher price.

If I hadn't found a good deal on the EWB20, I would definitely look at the AEB10.

Bass-desires, this may be a stupid question, but does the Ibanez fit well into the cases for acoustic guitars? You mentioned that Dean basses are bigger and need specific cases, I just wasn't sure if the Ibanez bass bodies would be more fitting for a "universal" case. I'll definitely need something to protect my bass when I pick it up.

I've owned the ibanez aeb10 for about a year now, and i love it, it sounds great unplugged and plugged in...but whenever i play about 1-6th fret on the e string, it gives me this weird buzzing noise, which is not fret buzz. I feel like the string's are too low on the fretboard, and their hitting higher frets. I've tried adjusting the action, but for some reason when i use my allen wrench it doesnt budge. Any suggestions?

I recommend looking for a used Michael Kelly acoustic bass. I managed to pick up a Club Custom 5 string for $350 and it sounds great either unplugged or amplified. The only thing to remember about acoustic instruments, which you might already be aware of, is to make sure the wood doesn't dry too much so its good to buy a guitar humidifier if you live in a place that has a dry climate. This one had weird acoustics on the thirteenth fret and higher on the G string but was cured by using a humidifier.

I must have missed this in March.

Dean has two acoustics, the very low budget "Playmate" and the more upscale "Performer". The "Performer" has had many different iterations over the years. The "Performer" models that I've tried have impressed the hell out of me for their price.
