Budget Active/Passive?

Does such a bass exist? I am talking about $600 or less. Maybe like a push/pull passive active circuit. Or, is this going to be something I would have to make?

I've looked at several basses with active/passive switches, one I'm thinking was a Fender, a Cort, and an Ibanez. All were around the $600 mark or less, and were nice instruments. I ended up buying a Fender Markus Miller, which ran a bit over $900 new, so look at used if that suits your needs. Don't recall any with a push/pull switch.

Do you remember what models they were? I can only seem to find threads about passive vs. active.

I want a bass that is on the cheap side that I can switch between active and passive so I can cover all spectrums. Do the new Carvin basses have that ability?

I really can't believe this hasn't been said yet, but rondomusic.com has some basses that are push/pull. My Brice HXB-405 fretless is that way and it only cost me $280 and I am VERY satisfied with it.

check out schecter basses they make quality stuff for that much

+1 And you'll find them all day long, on the bay, from 200 (usually pretty worn) to 500 (better be pristine for that price) in 4 string or 5 string versions. And with Super Ferrite p'ups, you'll get a nice Jazz bass sound in passive mode. (They'll growl for you if you dig hard enough).

Which models have that?

I think my biggest confusion is I noticed a lot of companies don't advertise their basses as active/passive. Makes me think they are only active.

I didn't notice any 4 stringers.

I had a Cort GB55. The passive bypass mode sounded very good on the Jazz p/u, and OK on the MM-style .

Or get a tech to put a passive v/t stack into an Ibanez ATK- there's lots of room under the control cavity cover...
