Budget Alternatives To The BDDI / VT?

For the past year, I've heaped praise on the Sonicake B Factory which resides on my board...it was free and I'm a cheapskate. I'd like a second / back-up but reluctant to drop any coin on the mid / higher-tier offerings...let's keep the price point <$100. Basic requirements:

*DI & 1/4" outputs.
*3 band EQ.
*Variable OD...I'm ok with cab sims.
*Low noise floor.
*Bonus points > compressor.
*Chasing any particular character (SVT, B15, etc.) is a lost cause irrespective of cost.

Here's a smattering of options I've run across:

*Joyo Dr. J. Sparrow > johnk_10 actually preferred this over & above the BDDI.

*Joyo Tidal Wave > has the one-knobby comp.

*Hotone B Station > at $150, it's a little over-budget but has extended features including an FX loop...and a comp!

*Caline Wine Cellar > think it's the cheapest of the bunch.

*Behringer BDI21 > various complaints re: plastic housing bet don't recall it posing any real problems.

There's some magic to be had on-the-cheap. Any recommendations or warnings?

I have both the SansAmp BDDI and the Joyo Tidal Wave. They are nearly identical in tone and function, with one small exception: output. The Tidal Wave has a lower output volume than the real deal.

Personally, I think the Joyo Monomyth is a better pedal and priced the same as the Tidal Wave (or very, very close).

That said, I do carry the Tidal Wave as a backup in case my amp goes belly up to use strictly as a DI.

Yes, if I recall correctly, it is a copy of the Darkglass Alpha Omega Ultra. I like it because it is more multi function. You can utilize it for a nice clean output, but also hit that second button and add drive/distortion to it. The EQ gives more control than just the BMT on the Tidal Wave. I actually used the Monomyth on my 'mini' board over the Tidal Wave.

The weaker link is the guy standing behind the bass but point taken. You're not off-course as my amp has all the aforementioned features including the desired comp.

The Joyo Tidal Wave was on my list when I was looking for a D.I. pedal. I ultimately chose the Sonicake B-Factory (I think the color scheme drew me in! LOL). I also own the MXR Bass D.I. but I know that's outside of your budget.

Given your experience(s), I need a "plan B" in the hopper although I DO have a Tech 21 BFR which fills-the-bill. Just looking for an excuse to drop some coin on more unneeded hardware.

The MXR does look like a nice kit.

The Wine Cellar is a great sounding pedal. Not as much umph to the signal imho. Needs isolated power as its noisy from my experience w/out it.

The VT Bass and BassDriver DIs are economical from the start, especially if you buy used. Why 'cheap out' for a copy when the real thing is maybe $200-250 at most, even on the used market?

At the moment, it's more of a challenge prompted by the ongoing "clones" thread. Somebody is buying them but with a mix of post-purchase reviews. You nailed it, though, as I also have my eye on either a BDDI v2 or ParaDriver which are within your stated price range.

The Behringer sounds very close to the Sansamp, and I don't think the plastic housing has caused any actual problems that I've heard of. I've owned a couple and they feel pretty solid. I'm sure other Sansamp clones are equally serviceable.

The only real objection I have to the Behringer and some of these other clones is that they are based on the older version of the BDDI, without the mids control. Once I tried the newer Sansamp BDDI with mids I never looked back. It makes a huge difference IMHO.

The MXR M80 is also very good and has more variety of voicings on tap than the Sansamp. It can sound like the Sansamp but you're not stuck with that one flavor. There are a couple on Reverb right now for $110/make an offer.

As mentioned above the MXR M80 is great. And I'll add a vote for the EHX BATTALION. I mentioned it in another post but it still stands.... it punches WAY above its weight.

I also owned one of those Behringer BDI21's and it worked fine for the few times I used it........ then, one sad day, it no longer worked. I did a bit of diagnostics on it and just gave up. Chucked it. Anyway, I am also looking for another pedow with a DI, either for my main unit or a backup, depending on how it works for me. I'll keep an eye on this thread!!

I've had the bddi and the vt bass. I will always have the vt bass handy but I will say the "blonde" circuit also works great for bass. The Tech21 character plus series is on sale right now for $100 (normally $250). Buy the screaming blonde and enjoy an extra channel + built in tube screamer.

Any gig or rehearsal time with it? My particular unit was plagued by gremlins which is how I lucked into it...no issues so far. I really like the performance and platform so I'm reluctant to stray too-far off course. I've also developed a strange obsession for the resident single-knob compressors...the B's optical comp is pretty impressive IMO.
