At my first violin lesson (I was 8) my teacher told me I should play bass - "those huge hands!" (even at 8!?). Took me a dozen years to agree. Maybe you were born to play violin? ;-)

Or shred my butt off at the expense of never being able to ever dig as deep as someone with substantial mitts.

In the end, it will be the one she likes in her hands while staring in the mirror. The real question everyone is avoiding…plectrum or fingers????? There will be no slapping as long I'm your father!!!!

Plectrum playing on bass just seems to run in the family. I'm not so good with my fingers, so I hope she learns that from somebody competent. She seems able to handle the pick copying my technique just fine.

It's never too late to learn some fingerstyle or slap yourself. Could be fun taking a lesson with your daughter. Bonding time! . Nothing wrong with playing a pick, but musicianship for me has been a lifetime of acquiring more tools for the toolshed.

As far as your talk of small hands.. in your earlier post.. don't sell yourself ...short... like that. *cough*.

Not knocking a shorty, but there are little kids that could run circles around me on a full sized bass. >.<

SX short scale jazz: dual single coils, small neck, should be light. Good quality for the price.

SX appears to be sold in Australia by Musos Corner, although I don't see the model I recommend on their website. It's worth a query.
