FWIW, a buffered pickup sees a constant (resistive) input impedance from a buffer input, and variable (resistive) impedances in series and parallel when there is a volume pot before the buffer.
When you have 2 passsive pickups, no matter how you wire them, they interact with eachother, right? The sound they put out is different than if you were to record each pickup completely separately. As I understand it, 2 buffered pickups do not interact with eachother. I have a weaker bridge pickup. My neck is an SGD ND3 (neo humbucker) and the bridge is an SGD SW4 (neo sidewinder). I was wondering if I could just go with a buffer with a gain for the bridge only.
You'd have to use a unity-gain buffer for the neck and a gainful buffer for the bridge. If you didn't buffer the neck, you'd have a serious impedance mismatch at hand and you'd lose a lot of the tone.
