buffering pickup output????????

My Schecter Riot-6 has EMG-HZ pickups, which are passive. It also has their 2 band EQ. I want to upgrade to the 3 band EQ that EMG offers. I emailed them and got this response.

Hello;

You need the BQC System, but it only works with active pups. The only way to get around that is to buffer the output of the HZ’s.

How do I, "Buffer the output of the HZ's"?

Thanks in advance to anyone who has the answer for my question

I'm guessing the output of the passive pups is not sufficient to drive the EQ section and there will likely be an impedance mismatch from output (pup) to input (EQ) even if you somehow boost it. I could be wrong as I went thru electronics training (US Navy) back when they were still using TUBES.

My first suggestion is to look for a preamp designed to work with passive pickups (Sadowsky, Aguilar, Nordstrand, Bartolini, Audere, Demeter, Glockenlang all make these types of onboard preamps that are designed to work with passive pickups).

Creation Audio makes a buffer for passive pickups that would fit inside the control cavity. However, it's not really cost effective to buy a buffer and an EMG EQ circuit.

All you need is the EMG-BQC control
The BQC Control features a bass and treble equalizer on a concentric (stacked) pot along with the concentric (stacked) mid-control. It takes up very little space and will work with any pickup, active or passive. It comes complete with knobs including 2 extra volume knobs.
The BQC will work active or passive it is just different value blend and volume pots for active and passive.

I would look at a different preamp ....i have had the same preamp and did not think it sounded all that great....i recently put an aguilar pre in a jazz bass and think that it sounds way better, and will work with the passive pickups. That is just my opinion.
