Not sure if this has already been mentioned, but for bass, I liked a 5751 tube in V1.

I've been running my EQ at noon with the presence turned down all the way. Seems to get a good, old-school rock tone through my 6X10. So far I've been really impressed with this thing.
The only "mod" I want to make is to move the rubber feet of the amp inwards so they fit in the indents on top of my Ampeg cab. Right now they're almost hanging off the edge. I don't care about the aesthetics, I just don't want the thing to fall!

Inside, the 1960 looks to be as well-made as modern Marshalls, and better than many others. Very simple circuit, clean wiring.
I hear the complicated ones - 333XL, etc. - are nightmares.
The Tone King posted a video on YouTube in which he looks inside a 1960 and compares it to a Marshall.

Really interested. Wondering if the Bugera and my 4x12 Marshall would be enough to play clean with two guitarists using solid-state combos and a drummer.
anyone ever compare one of these to the Ampeg V4BH? I was seriously thinking about the 1960 a while back then found an affordable V4BH and was totally underwhelmed by the V4BH when it came to volume. I'm still interested in the Bugera 1960 but.....worried about gig volume levels. My cab is an Avatar bass 412 (which is a seriously impressive cab.....can handle 2000watts RMS). I just wonder if the 1960 would push it well and be heard in the mix. I play in a hard rock / punk / ska-ish three piece.
I prefer a clean-ish fingerstyle tone with a hair of grit, not fuzz or distortion.

Just ordered a "scratch'n'dent" 1960 Infinium (the new model) for $340 shipped. Since it automatically biases just about any power tube I might try it with 6L6's or 6550's to see if I like the tone better than the EL34B's it comes with - anybody tried that yet? Anybody modded the tone controls for bass yet?
Flat on a Fender/Marshall tone stack is bass=0 mid=10 treble=0 - weird, huh?
I don't know that it needs modification... When I use mine, I'm quite happy with it!
Such is the nature of the Western Electric tone stack... I'm not sure that the Bass and Treble have to be at zero...perhaps 2 or so.

I guess if you're not "into" mid cut it doesn't much matter that the mid is tuned kinda high?
I found a comment somewhere that "1" on those was maximally flat on a Marshal vs "0" on a Fender and that most cabs are gonna need a bit of bass and treble boost to compensate for their roll-offs.
Obviously the "Randy Rhodes" mod on the Infinium isn't terribly useful for bass but it looks like you can just use channel #2 "normally".
I got ahold of one of those old Tom Scholz Power Soaks really cheap, hooked it up and was finally able to turn the 1960 up to where it really breaks up. I found that right around 5 was my sweet spot to get a lot of overdrive on the hard notes, 6 was pretty much fully saturated. The only problem is that the Power Soak seemed to throw a bit of a blanket over the tone and made it a little too dark. I'm gonna play with the EQ a little more and see if I can get it right where I want it, but this might be my main rig going forward. I've also read online a lot of people saying the same thing about the Scholz model. Might try to get ahold of a Weber MASS or a Hotplate, those seem to get better reviews.
