I've been fascinated by multi-coil pickups and filter preamps for a while, but the legacy brands have always seemed far too expensive. Thanks to the good folks at Talkbass, I discovered ACG and absolutely fell in love with the quality of craftsmanship. So, I spoke to Alan from ACG (@Skelf) and we picked the following top and fretboard combination.
The Uber Series is the top shelf ACG range, which allows you all the 'works'. So I asked for the dual filter preamp, the multi coil pickups, an ART top (acrylic resin treated), acrylic impregnated fingerboard, luminlay markers, fretboard markers, 19 mm spacing and a matching headstock. It's still work in progress but this was the first picture Alan sent me:
And after many months on working on other projects while I enviously watched their dream basses come to life, I received this in my messages:
I can certainly say that this is one of the most gorgeous basses I've ever laid my eyes upon.
I've never played an ACG in person, but I've spoken to several people that have, who speak very highly of the brand. Alan is a great guy, very responsive and reliable. And the prices, while high, are still not sell-your-kidney level. I can't wait to see how it will look once the pickups and hardware come in!
