A clue? Seriously, there are instructions for one way to do it in the Traeger book, but I think everyone does these a little different, and they usually use ebony. And you also need a bass to put it on. Check the different C-extensions on some of Ken Smith's basses:if I were to want to do it, how hard is it? I have 9 feet of brazilian cherry( got it today

There are actually two descriptions of how to make a fingered C extension in the Chuck Traeger book. One is by Traeger and another by NYC luthier Bill Merchant. Fingered C extensions have been traditionally made of all ebony, but many luthiers, myself included, are now concerned about the excess weight that an all ebony extension adds to a bass neck and are making extensions mostly from hardwoods like maple but with an ebony fingerboard about 1/4" thick glued on the top. They function identically, but only weigh a fraction of the weight of an all ebony extension. You can still have ebony fingers on these if you want a full chromatic extension, but there are also light weight brass "capos" available.
oh, alright, just an idea because i bought the cherry today, any other ideas for using it other than a c extension?
