Building my first Bass rig...

Thinking of going with a Eden 550 into a Eden 4x10XLT

Will this be good enough to last me years and handle almost all venues? I can't imagine I would ever play anything bigger than a decent sized club.

Any input is appreciated. Right now I have a Genz Benz 100 combo which I like for practice but obviously not for gigs.

I play a Modulus Q5.

Thanks.

It depends on the Eden. They were what you saw everywhere for awhile back when and were good rigs but the company's gone through many changes since. Ownership's changed, production's moved, quality (longevity/reliability) has suffered and then maybe or maybe not come back again, etc. (Good way to start some arguement there:smug:). It's one option among many. The general Eden sound is (or used to be) kinda like a frowny face eq, thick, lot's of power, dimished deep lows (which can be a good thing sometimes) and lack of clarity/articulation in the higher mids and treble.

My 2 cents. Played through many Eden rigs, mostly WT800's and a 410 or 2. Got the job done every time but never was happy enough with it to buy one, always looking for something 1 better.

Interesting. I'm looking for clarity. I was under the impression that they excelled at that...

"Clarity" is a subjective/relative term, it also depends a lot on where you're standing/listening in relationship to the rig. If you're just looking for volume/fullness/power, it'll do ya....blow away any combo amp.

I'm not up on all the latest Eden offerings but if it's an older one and in good shape, it's probably a decent rig.

I guess when I think clarity I want to cut through the mix. No "muddyness". I'm OK with it sounding a bit stale/cold.

I don't really know the Eden stuff, but I do know that a Markbass F1/F500 has a great voicing for "cut" with quite a range of cabinets. While they're often described as "sterile", it's not an opinion I share, but it sounds like it's an amp that might suit you. Check out some of KJung's YouTube clips -- he's also a fan.

I don't know Eden but if you already have a Genz Benz , how about one of their rigs? I bought the large head gbe1200 and its winning me over to their product line. Genz seems to have a size head for all uses. Their stuff is pricey but it should be easy to expand their products. Also the company seems to have a good cust. service response. I had to email them the day after I got my head for connection advice and it was answered the next day. I'm still waiting for Ampeg to get back to me. There are many here on this Forum that have Genz and this should be helpful for what to get....or look at...

With the advent of Genz microheads I was expecting to see a lot more GB600's and 750's coming up on the used market but I just haven't seen it, not here locally anyway.

That should tell you something about customer loyalty/reliability, etc. I was hoping for a lot more opportunities to scoop up a 600 or better yet 750 2-rackspace head from somebody who replaced it with a shuttle but it just hasn't happened.
