Had this bass nearly 40 years and no idea if they are desired or valuable anymore any thoughts appreciated as could do with getting rid.

Yes, an early '60s (guessing '62 by the neck late) Split Sound (baritone) Bass. Looks like it has a replaced selector knob (top knob) and an extra matching knob next to the bridge. (not original) Don't know much specifically about it but my best advise is to visit the Burns fb page based in the UK. They will answer any questions you have about it. BURNS Guitars & Amplifiers The moderator Bill Lovegrove is very helpful and an authority on Burns guitars/amps. My Vista Sonic from '63, the precursor to the Burns Jazz Bass ('64) if found in good condition usually has an asking price of anywhere between $900- $1200 fyi. No idea what a baritone would sell for. Looking through sold ebay listings it seems Burns basses are out performing the guitars. This has to have some rarity to it, I'd figure it has decent value (though you're not a supporting member and we're not supposed to give out appraisals). The bass VI seems to be pretty popular around here so the TB classifieds are probably a good place to list it.

Rick Huxley played one in the Dave Clark Five. Among other basses. Bet you can't name them all, he liked to switch off quite a bit. The Burns 6 string bass is an extremely rare instrument but it would take some time to find the right person for that bass.

split sound bass in the sixties !! Sold it in 1974 for 12 quid !! Wish I had kept it.....
