Busted

My wife and I were reminiscing about when she was a cop in a major metro police dept in New Mexico (now retired). The auto shop that I worked at was in her area command so we often saw each other. One day shortly after taking up bass (am also a guitarist) the wife got a call for service at the music shop where I took lessons. After getting the scene under control she mentioned that I took lessons there. Yup we know him, he just bought a new amp last month, yup BUSTED. A few months later she saw me in my car reading the invoice for a new bass that I had bought not 10 minutes before, yup BUSTED again. What ways have you gotten away with new gear, how have you been caught?

I don't know. Every romantic partner I've had knew I was a musician and bought gear. I never had to or tried to hide anything. YMMV
Having had both styles of SO, currently a non-musician who complains about gear purchases, I can tell you the next one will have to get it without explanation. Not fighting these battles anymore. Esp. after over 20 years with one who never said a word about it.

If that argument has been working you: fantastic.

And I take her out to dinner on Thursday nights, so she doesn't mind me being out three nights a week. This is why I greatly prefer being in the Service Business to being an Artist. (Hey, where's that guy who wanted to know how much I made gigging? ;))
