DOH! This afternoon I was surfing talkbass from work. I went to reply to a thread and when I hit the button I got the filter screen from work and it said the website was filtered due to "CHAT." Oops...I guess I've been spending too much time on TB at work and it showed up on the radar. Well...that will severely cut into my TB time but it's probably good because starting next week I'll actually have students coming to my program regularly. I haven't up until this point due to holdups above me which I have no control over. However, I still won't have students on Friday so that's a bummer.

I'm sure this is good news for some of you though. :D

I was on TB all day at school today. I guess i better cut it down before its cut off.

Before WHAT gets cut off?

It's pretty easy to see whatever you want up at the college. Of the people taking the various computer related classes, the vast majority are ALREADY techno-nerds, and know how to get around the filters and such. We turned one the computers in the MIDI lab one day and they were completely full of some VERY raunchy porn of the, um, well, DISGUSTING variety. Now the MIDI lab computers are on a LAN that has no external sources. Stupid porn people.

Rock on

Yep...I work in network services. One of my tasks is to monitor internet usage among employees. On a monthly basis, we meet to decide what to add to the filter.

I used to be on a committee looking at internet usage when it first became available to everyone where I work. It was decided that it wasn't worth monitoring usage as it was too time-consuming and hence too expensive - we were talking about 30k employees then and more than 100k now!

The policy decided, was that if line managers suspected somebody of abuse then it could be investigated on their say-so - but otherwise that blanket monitoring was just not worth it and also was taking away the responsibility from managers to know what their staff were doing and to manage them properly!
